(SEMESTER IV STUDENTS)

DISSERTATION (TOTAL: 100 MARKS)

THESIS PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION:


GENERAL GUIDELINES:
1. The dissertation must be in Print ready format in PDF. It must be of at least 5,000 words.
2. No part of thesis shall have been submitted for the award of any other degree or diploma from any other Institution/University without
written permission.
3. Plagiarism check is mandatory.
4. The text should be in Times New Roman 12 font size, with headings in 14 font size.
5. The thesis shall be written in English or in any other language as approved by Department in the format and style (APA Style format).
6. The thesis shall involve in depth study and critical review of the area of his topic and creation of new knowledge in the area. It should bear
evidence of the candidate’s capacity for analysis and judgment as well as his ability to carry out independent investigation, design or
development. It should be characterized by discovery of facts or fresh approach towards interpretation of facts and theories or significant
contribution to knowledge or development or a combination of these.
7. Failure to submit the Dissertation by the due date and failure to appear at the Viva-voce Examination will be treated as “Absent” in the
Examination. He/she will have to submit the Dissertation and appear for the Viva-Voce Examination in the subsequent year (as per the
prevalent Rules).
8. No marks will be allotted on the Dissertation unless a candidate appears at the Viva-Voce Examination. Similarly, no marks will be allotted
on Viva-Voce Examination unless a candidate submits his/her Dissertation.
9. Evaluation of the Dissertation to be done jointly by one internal expert and two external experts with equal weightage, i.e., average marks
of the internal and two external experts will be allotted to the candidate.

DISSERTATION RELATED ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES:


10. Preparation of Manuscript and Copies
10.1 The thesis must be typed and submitted in Print ready format in PDF.
10.2 The thesis must be printed on one side of white paper. All copies of thesis pages must be clear, sharp and even, with uniform size and
uniformly spaced characters, lines and margins on every page of good quality white paper.
10.3 Thesis should be free from typographical errors.

11. Size and margins


11.1 A4 is the recommended thesis size.
11.2. Content should not extend beyond the bottom margin except for completing a footnote, last line of chapter/subdivision, or figure/table
caption.
11.3 All tables and figures should conform to the same requirements as text. Colour may be used for figures.
11.4 Students may choose to submit printed thesis copies either in the standard size or in a book format that is roughly half of A4. If the book
format is adopted for submission, it should be ensured that all textual and illustrative material is distinct and legible. Students should also submit
the thesis in soft form (PDF) for storage and archival.
12. Page Numbering
12.1 Beginning with the first page of the text in the thesis (chapter 1), all pages should be numbered consecutively and consistently in Times
New Roman through the appendices.
12.2 Page numbers prior to Chapter 1 should be in lower case Roman numerals. The title page is considered to be page (i) but the number is not
printed.

13. Line Spacing


The general text of the manuscript should be in 1.5 spacing.

14. Tables, Figures and Equations


14.1 All tables (tabulated data) and figures (charts, graphs, maps, images, diagrams, etc.) should be prepared, wherever possible, on the same
paper used to type the text and conform to the specifications outlined earlier. They should be inserted as close to the textual reference as
possible. Cite source compulsory for every figure and table.
14.2 Tables, figures and equations should be numbered sequentially either throughout the thesis or chapter-wise., For instance, Table 5.3, Figure
5.1, and Equation (5.1) related to chapter 5 etc.
14.3 Images, Photographs, etc. must be scanned in high resolution.

15. Binding
The student should submit the two copies of the thesis in fully hard bound form.
