mASEANa_PH2020 is a 4-day international student workshop to be held in Manila in February 2020 that is organized by the mASEANa Project, which aims to document and promote modern architecture in Southeast Asia. What is the mASEANa Project?
The mASEANa (modern ASEAN architecture) Project runs from 2015-2020 and aims to document, study, and promote awareness of the importance of Instagram / Twitter conserving modern built heritage in the ASEAN region. Who can join mASEANa_PH2020?
mASEANa_PH2020 is open to students of selected colleges of architecture in the Philippines. Faculty members can also apply to be mentors. The event is limited to 60 participants.
How will mASEANa_PH2020 work?
During the workshop, the participants will be divided into teams and asked to document (photograph) and explore the forms and spaces of modern built heritage in Metro Manila. Each team will be assigned a district and a predetermined list of buildings to document.
What will the output of mASEANa_PH2020 be?
The participants of mASEANa_PH2020 will be expected to submit two (2) posters and present their documentation and impressions of modern built heritage in their assigned districts. The presentations will be held on the last day of the workshop. This will be complemented by an exhibit of the posters.
How can I join mASEANa_PH2020?
Interested institutions should coordinate with the mASEANa_PH2020 Secretariat regarding slots. Institutions will be responsible for selecting the students joining the event and excusing them from their classes. Affiliated institutions may be asked to recommend a Faculty member to join as a mentor or as an observer. However, attendance to the opening and closing ceremonies is not restricted to participants.
Have similar workshops been held before?
Yes. Similar workshops have been previously held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh (2016), Tokyo (2013 and 2017), Yangon (2017), Jakarta (2017), Bangkok (2018), and Kuala Lumpur (2019). The next workshop will be held in Singapore in November 2019.
