All assembly, installation, operation and repair work for this equipment should only be un-
! dertaken by properly trained and qualified personnel. In the event of any injury (e.g. burns
and acid burns) being sustained, seek medical help immediately.
The V5824G is designed for indoor operation only and all the Ethernet and console wir-
ings are limited to inside of the building. It must be installed in temperature-controlled lo-
cations (for example the exchange).
In order to prevent product damage or accidents, do not install or operate the product at
the place of bad condition: such as too high or low temperature, poor ventilation or airtight,
high humidity, much dust, or much mechanical vibration.
The system V5824G is intended for installation locations with access authorization. (Re-
stricted access locations)
This is class A product. In a domestic environment this product may cause radio interfer-
! ence in which case the user may be required to take adequate measures.

To guard against any possible hazards, all optical transmitters are equipped with an au-
tomatic laser shutdown circuit. This trips if an input signal is missing at the relevant optical
receiver, e.g. if the connection is interrupted.
When breaking laser connections, the following procedure should be followed, despite the
presence of the laser shutdown circuit:

To comply with fire protection standards as defined in DIN EN 60950-1, a protective plate
(C42165-A320-C684) must be fitted into the floor of ETSI and 19-inch standard racks.
The rack must also meet the requirements of a fire-resistant housing as defined in DIN
EN 60950-1.
Plug-in units bearing the symbol shown in Fig. 1.2 are equipped with components subject
! to electrostatic discharge. Adhere to the relevant safety provisions.
When packing, unpacking, touching, pulling out, or plugging in plug-in units bearing the
ESD symbol, it is essential to wear a grounding bracelet. This ensures that the plug-in
units are not subject to electrostatic discharge.
Under no circumstances should you touch the printed conductors or components of plug-
in units. Take hold of plug-in units by the edge only.
Once removed, place the plug-in units in the conductive plastic sleeves intended for them.
Keep or dispatch them in the special boxes or transport cases bearing the ESD symbol.
Treat defective plug-in units with the same degree of care as new ones in order to avoid
further damage.
Plug-in units in a closed and intact housing are protected in any case.

• Existing ventilation equipment must not be changed. The sufficient air circulation
must not be obstructed.
• A label with the words “HOT AREA” is fixed to hot surfaces. This indicates a severe
danger of injury.
• Shelters with a front door may only be operated when this door is closed. You should
therefore remove the front door before doing the necessary work and replace it once
you have finished your work.

Deviations from the specifications or unstipulated changes during construction, e.g. the
! use of cable types with lower shielding values are a violation of the CE requirements. In
such cases, the conformity declaration is invalidated and the manufacturer is refused
from responsibility. All liability passes immediately to those persons undertaking any un-
authorized deviations.

Dasan Networks reserves the right to apply the exemptions to the RoHS requirements as
set out in the Annex to the RoHS directive, in particular lead in solders for network infra-
structure equipment for switching, signaling, transmission as well as network manage-
ment for telecommunication.
All electrical and electronic products should be disposed of separately from the municipal
waste stream via designated collection facilities appointed by the government or the local
authorities.
The correct disposal and separate collection of your old appliance will help prevent poten-
tial negative consequences for the environment and human health. It is a precondition for
reuse and recycling of used electrical and electronic equipment.
For more detailed information about disposal of your old appliance, please contact your
city office, waste disposal service, the shop where you purchased the product or your Da-
san Networks partner.
The statements quoted above are only fully valid for equipment which is installed in the
countries of the European Union and is covered by the directive 2002/96/EC.
Countries outside the European Union may have other regulations regarding the disposal
of electrical and electronic equipment.

V5824G
2 Overview
The V5824G is a compact sized GPON Optical Line Terminal (OLT) with a height of only
1RU. This system is suitable for access lines used for Ethernet leased line services.
The GPON technology adds new features and functionality targeted at improving perfor-
mance and interoperability, and adds support for new applications, services, and deploy-
ment scenarios. Among these changes are improvements in data rate and reach perfor-
mance, diagnostics, and stand-by mode, to name a few.
The V5824G introduces a point-to-multipoint concept with the GPON technology, which
enables a cost-effective FTTx service. The reason why GPON is considered as a cost-
effective solution is its usage of a passive splitter rather than an active switching system.
There are different possible deployment topologies for GPON networks, which differenti-
ate from each other basically from the place the optical fiber is terminated. Depending on
the subscriber type and desired topology to the network, the operator may adopt: FTTH
(fiber to the Home), FTTB (fiber to the Building), FTTN (fiber to the neighborhood) or
FTTC (fiber to the Curb). In case of very high bandwidth requirement per user, scenarios
without splitters offering 2.5Gbps/1.25Gbps (downstream/upstream) data rate can also be
deployed by connecting only the single user on a GPON port.

The V5824G provides 8 GPON ports on the front panel, each delivering 2.488Gbps
downstream and 1.244Gbps upstream data rate. Each GPON port supports a pluggable
SFP laser module that allows selection of the best speed and power to meet network re-
quirements. This OLT provides combo type 8 electrical (RJ45) or optical (SFP) GE inter-
faces. And two 10GbE (SFP+) ports as uplink towards the core network and these inter-
faces can be used either to cascade other switches or to connect to a collocated DSLAM.
The MGMT and console interface is located on the most left of the front panel with em-
bedded LED for LNK/ACT and TX/RX indication respectively. They are for use of equip-
ment management via remote access or CLI.

The V5824G has two Power Supply Unit (PSU) mounting slots on the rear panel. Each
PSU is comprised of single DC or AC power input. For power redundancy, user can equip
dual PSUs into 2 slots. Install an appropriate PSU between AC type and DC type accord-
ing to your installation environment.

The PSU includes two LEDs to indicate the status of the power feeding and alarm. The
green LED “PWR” displays power feeding, and the red LED “ALARM” displays the oper-
ating status.
PWR Green On PSU is installed, and power voltage is fed to the system.
Off PSU is not installed or is not supplied from the power source.
ALARM Red On Power output fault has occurred.
Off Power voltage is fed to the system with no errors.
The V5824G is designed for indoor operation in the central office or collocation room with
controlled environmental conditions (ETS 300 019-1-3 or Bellcore GR-0063). The network
equipment is located in a central office. Each type of location is characterized by a typical
technical infrastructure. A possible rack configuration is rack row.
Doors and rear panels are not provided. Additional components are needed to adapt the
network equipment on the existing infrastructure.

When you install or replace the unit, the ground connection must always be made first
! and disconnected last.
Additional ground cables may be added depending on local site practice. The V5824G is
! designated only for a Common Bonding Network (CBN), according to the GR-1089-
CORE Issue 5 (sec 9.3) definitions.
The DC return connection to this system should remain isolated from the system frame
! and chassis (DC-I). It is configured as DC-I according to the GR-1089-CORE, Issue 5(sec
9.8.3) definitions.

Insert the PSUs into the PWR A and B slots in the switch.
A switch MUST always be used with the blank panels to fill all remaining front/rear empty
i slots in the switch. Using a switch without blank panels results in improper air flow that
can lead to serious system problems.
