A film for both nerve and excitement - Skyscraper

Skyscraper is an American action thriller film directed by Rawson

Marshall Thurber, released in 2018. Starring Dwayne Johnson in the
lead role, Neve Campbell, Chin Han, Roland Møller, Noah Taylor,
Byron Mann, Pablo Schreiber, and Hannah Quinlivan. The film
follows William "Will" Sawyer, a former FBI agent who lost his left
leg below the knee when he and his team encounter a hostage
taker with a suicide bomb and has to rescue his family from a newly
built Hong Kong skyscraper which was overtaken by terrorists.

First thing, about the plot. The plot is no doubt simply constructed
and direct. Not intricate at all, which does not require further
interpretation. The arrangements of the beginning, build-up, climax,
and resolution are well managed, which is good enough to take
your emotions onto a rollercoaster ride. And most importantly, the
plot makes sense, which does not have significantly unreasonable
situations or circumstances.

Other than the plot, the scenes are also important. However, it is a
bit disappointing. Some are considerably over-exaggerated, and
some are indeed unrealistic. For instance, the movie was said to be
taking place in Hong Kong. But, most of the street scenes looks like
it's in the US instead of Hong Kong. An absurd thing is about the TV
news reports. The Cantonese level doesn't even meet the criterion
of a local Hong Konger. News report, more like acting on a purpose.
And the main problem is the overuse of emotions in a news report.
I honestly don't think a news reporter will have significant
emotional expression while reporting. Did they even hire the right
personnel for the right job? But seems like they don't even have a
Hong Konger in their production team. What a pity.
The last thing is VFX and SFX. These are mostly the core of the
entire movie's vibe, which plays the support role. And I am mostly
satisfied with the overall visual effects and sound effects. They are
well-produced, and you can definitely tell that it fits the scenarios,
as even I am watching the 2D version at that time. Explosions,
blazes, and bullets flying around all manifest directly into your eyes.
Stunning as ever like you're experiencing it. The sound effects'
velocity is also well-managed, which doesn't make jumpscares.
Production of the Background music tracks is sure enough to be
top-notch and top tier, which creates the most apodictic vibes for
each scene. The visual effects are mostly perfect, but there's only
one problem - The shot of rock leaping from the crane to the
building's broken window. Until today I still can't wrap my head
around it.

For me, this movie deserves a value of a 4-star rating. Though it's
not perfect, it's pretty decent. I will undoubtedly recommend this
movie to action film lovers and those who pursue the excitement
from films.
