CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

The research methodology indicates the general pattern of developing or refining


the methods of obtaining, organizing or analysing data for gathering valid and reliable data
for investigation. This chapter deals with the methodology adopted to this study. It includes
the research approach, research design, variables, setting, population, sample, and criteria for
the selection of sample, sample size, sampling technique, development and description of the
tool, description of instruction module, content validity, pilot study, data collection
procedure, plan for data analysis and protection of human rights.

Staff nurse in Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai.

All staff nurse in Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai, who full fill the inclusion criteria.

3.7. SAMPLE SIZE

30 Staff nurse in Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai.


3.8. SAMPLING TECHNIQUE

Non probability – Purposive sampling technique.

3.9. CRITERIA FOR SAMPLING

INCLUSION CRITERIA

Staff nurse who is willing to participate in the study.

EXCLUSION CRITERIA

Those who is not available in the time of data collection.

Written consent is obtained from the study participants to protect the human rights.

3.11. DESCRIPTON OF RESEARCH TOOL

Development of tool for data collection

The following tools are include in this study. According to that the objectives of the
study, the tool comprised to section.

Section-I: Socio demographic data

Selected age, sex, educational status, working experience, marital status.

Section-II: Structured questionnaire

Structured questionnaire - knowledge on evidence based practice.


3.12. SCORING PROCEDURE

Section –A: There was no score allotted for socio demographic variables.

Section –B: Knowledge questionnaire - 20 items questionnaire .which were rated


below are calculated by summing the score for the given items

3.13. PROCEDURE FOR DATA COLLECTION

Formal permission will be obtained from the principal and nursing superindentent Staff
nurse, Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai. The data was collected within the prescribed
time period for staff nurse who were available during the data collection. The researcher were
explained about the objectives of the study and getting informed consent before starting the
data collection. After explanation, the structured Questionnaire was given to the staff nurses
knowledge on evidence based practice.
Research approach – Quantitative approach

Research design: Non experimental research design

Study setting: Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai.

Target population: staff nurses

Accessible population : Staff nurses in Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai.

Sample : Staff nurse in Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai.

Sample size : 30 Staff nurses

Sampling technique : Non probability-purposive sampling.
