The Skeletal System

We’ve talked about the

skeletal system in our Anatomy
and Physiology - LEC . Take the
quiz and find out how much you
have remembered!
Bones meet at:
a. Ligaments
b. Joints
c. Muscles
d. Vessels
The bones in your spine are called:
a. Cartilage
b. Little bones
c. Ribs
d. Vertebrae
Vertebrae
How many bones are in the spine?
a. 1 million
b. 65
c. 33
d. 14
Before birth, the spine consists of 33
separated bones, but 9 of these
eventually fuse .
The bone that protects our brain:
a. Lobes
b. Skull
c. Vertebral Column
d. Frontal and temporal bones
The rib cage protects your:
a. Liver
b. Heart
c. Lungs
d. All of the above
The rib cage is one of the body’s
best defenses against injury from
impact. Flexible yet strong, the rib
cage protects major vital organs such
as the heart, lungs, and liver.
What are 4 types of
connective tissue?

How many bones are there in a human head?
a. 29
b. 8
c. 14
d. 6
There are 29 bones in the human
head. They consist of 8 cranial bones, 14
facial bones, the hyoid bone, and 6
auditory (ear) bones.
The 8 cranial bones are the frontal, 2 parietal, occipital, 2 temporal, sphenoid, and ethmoid
bones.
The 14 facial bones are the 2 maxilla,
mandible, 2 zygomatic, 2 lacrimal, 2 nasal,
2 turbinate, vomer and 2 palate bones.
The hyoid bone is horseshoe-shaped bone at
the base of the tongue.
The 6 auditory ossicles (little bones) are the malleus,
incus and stapes in each ear.
How many bones are there in adult body?
a. 300

:
In the video, it emphasizes the importance of
good nutrition and exercise. Also note, that
disuse such as that caused paralysis or severe
lack of exercise results in muscle or bone
atrophy (wasting and thinning).
When you hear articulation in anatomy, this
means _____________________
An articulation, or joint, is where two bones
come together.

You have heard/ read terms in anatomy such as

projection, depression and opening. What does
these terms mean?
• A projection is an area of a bone that projects
above the surface of the bone.
