SCIENCE STUDY GUIDE – II TERM PRIMARY 4th Grade

Name: ___________________________________________________________ Class: ____________

Directions: On this study guide you will find different exercises and questions related to the topics we
have studied during this past term. Please read each question carefully and answer them in the same
paper. Exercises are proposed to be completed on 3 days of study. Organize your time wisely so you can
complete them all. Feedback will be given in class.

1.Choose words from the box to complete the sentences [1 point each]
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
5Cm.02 Understand that substances can be gaseous and know the common gases at room
temperature (limited to oxygen, carbon dioxide, water vapour, nitrogen and hydrogen).
5Cm.01 Use the particle model to describe solid, liquids (including solutions) and gases
5Cp.02 Know the main properties of water (limited to boiling point, melting point, expands when it
solidifies, and its ability to dissolve a range of substances) and know that water acts differently
from many other substances.

Atmosphere – Compressed – Pollute – Properties – Boil – Boiling Point – Contract – Expand – Melt –
Melting Point

a. This is the gaseous layer that covers Earth

b. Refers to put harmful substances into water, soil and air

c. This is what a substance or material is like, or how it behaves

____________________________________________________________________________________

d. Means to get smaller, for example, heated plastic wrap contracts and shrinks when it cools down

____________________________________________________________________________________

e. The temperature at which a solid melts and becomes a liquid

____________________________________________________________________________________

f. When a solid changes state to become a liquid, for example when ice melts to become water

____________________________________________________________________________________

g. This is a synonym of being squashed

____________________________________________________________________________________

h. When particles throughout a liquid change into gas, usually at high temperatures

____________________________________________________________________________________

i. The temperature at which a liquid boils and becomes a gas

____________________________________________________________________________________

j. Means to get bigger, for example, a balloon expands when we blow into it
