Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan

This document contains a semi-detailed lesson plan for teaching 8th grade science about the particle nature of matter. The lesson plan aims to explain the properties of solids, liquids and gases based on how the particles that make up matter move. It includes objectives, content outline, materials needed, procedures and evaluation. The procedures involve reviewing key concepts, drilling questions, a video demonstration, analysis questions, generalizing discussions and an application activity where students describe states of matter. An assessment with multiple choice questions evaluates students' understanding of topics like what matter is made of, phases of matter and particle behavior in different states. The teacher reflects that while most students understood, some need reinforcement activities to improve comprehension.

A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 8

Maria Joylyn O. Divino Mrs. Sonia Enrile

Bsed-Science 3A Instructor

I. OBJECTIVES
A. CONTENT STANDARD
The demonstrate an understanding of:
The particle nature of matter as basis for explaining properties, physical
changes, and structure of substances and mixtures.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learners shall be able to:
Present how water behaves in its different states within water cycle.

C. LEARNING COMPETENCIES/OBJECTIVES
The learners should be able to, explain the properties of solid, liquid, and gases based on the
particle nature of matter.

After the activity and discussion, the learners are expected to accomplish the following tasks
with 75% proficiency.
1. Explain the properties of solid, liquid and gases based on the particle nature of matter
2. Describe and differentiate all the state of matter and how their particles move.
3. Demonstrate about the different phenomena in understanding matter through video
presentations.

II. CONTENT
Topic: Matter

Materials: Laptop, Pencil & Paper.
Values Integration: Understanding matter during interaction in our day to day life.
III. LESSON PROCEDURES (4A’s)
A. Preliminary Activties
 Prayer, greetings, and checking of attencdance and assignments.
B. Developing Activities
1. Review
 What common properties do solutions have?
 Are solutions always liquid?
 Will all solids dissolve in water?
 What are the characteristics of solutions?
2. Drill
 What is matter made of?
 What changes can take place when water is heated or cooled?
 Are all the particles of matter moving?

C. Activity (Video presentation-Demonstration about particle nature of matter)

 The learners will perform on a video presentation, illustrating there understanding
about the particle nature of matter, and will be supervised by the teacher. And let the
students observe and pay attention to the discussion.

D. Analysis (Cognitive domain)

 Why does the mass of an object is different to the mass of another object?
 When you mixed salt with water, and it tasted salty because the salt is still present,
although you cannot see the salt anymore. Why is this so?
 Why can you push the plunger in an empty syringe, but cannot in a syringed filled
with water?
 What do you think happened when Ice turns into liquid water? and liquid water into
steam?

E. Abstraction (Generalization)
 How do these particles is important in understanding why there are different state of
matter such as solid, liquid and gas?
 How do these matter relates to the composition of every objects?
 How is matter related to our day to day life?

F. Application (Psychomotor)
 The teacher will let the students apply their conceptual and analytical learning
through describing the different states of matter, its properties, compositions and
characteristics, as well as the students will explain their understanding about the
particular topic through the use of computer simulations and, or video presentations.

IV. EVALUATION
Part I. Multiple Choice

Direction: Choose the letter of the correct answer.

1. What is matter made of according to John Dalton?

a. Matter is made of solid, liquid and gas.
b. Matter is made of smaller particles called atoms.
c. Matter is mde of solids.
d. Matter is made of liquids.
2. The following are the phases of matter EXCEPT one.
a. Solid
b. Liquid
c. Gas
d. Steam
3. Matter is made of smaller particles called atoms, and when one or two atoms are combined
together it is now called________?
a. Molecule
b. Mixture
c. Solution
d. Particle
4. Why do gases take the shape of the container?
a. Because the particles of gases are compressed.
b. Because the particles of gases are able to move freely to all parts of the container, and
that there is negligible attraction between them.
c. Because the particles of gases are close to one another.
d. Because the particles fill all the available space in the container.
5. This is one of the state of matter that has a definite shape and volume because the particles
are packed closely together in fixed positions.
a. Solid
b. Liquid
c. Gas
d. Steam

V. REMARKS
The lesson needs ample time to discuss the whole topic. Therefore, there will be a continuous of
the lesson next meeting.

VI. REFLECTION
The lesson has been delivered well, and that the students participate and understand the topic.
however, there are few students who are having difficulty in understanding the lesson based on
their performance and test results. So, there will be Enrichments activities for the students who
already learned and reinforcements activities for the students who have lower performance in
class.
