02 What does an aerospace engineer Do

01 Inspiration
Neil Armstrong
Armstrong is a very well-known figure in the history of aerospace
engineering. He was an American astronaut and aeronautical engineer
who also happened to be the first person to walk on the moon. He spent
over 2 hours outside of the aircraft on that historic day, famously saying
‘That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.’
Satish Dhawan
He is known as the father of experimental fluid dynamics research in India. Dhawan was born in
Srinagar on 25 September 1920. He graduated from the University of Punjab in Lahore (now
Pakistan) where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics, a Bachelors
degree in Mechanical Engineering. He completed a Master of Science in aerospace engineering
from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and an Aeronautical Engineering Degree from
the California Institute of Technology followed by a double PhD. in mathematics and aerospace
engineering.
Elon Musk
❏ Founded SpaceX
❏ Co-founder and CEO of Tesla, Inc, co-founder of
PayPal and co-founder and CEO of Neuralink.
❏ Huge figure in the world of aerospace engineering.
Kalpana Chawla
❏ First female of Indian origin to go to space.

❏ She was an American astronaut and first flew

on the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1997.
APJ Abdul Kalam
❏ Missile man of India.
❏ Served as 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007.
❏ He graduated from the Madras Institute of Technology in 1960.
❏ Joined the Aeronautical Development Establishment of the Defence
Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as a scientist.
What Does An Aerospace Engineer DO
Aeronautical engineering is mainly concerned with designing
spacecraft, aircraft, missiles and weapons systems. A typical
day of an aerospace engineer goes in :

👉Developing and designing new and innovative technologies

For aircraft and spacecraft.
👉Formulating new ways to make flights more economical and
efficient.
What Does An Aerospace Engineer DO

👉Testing and assembling different parts of an aeroplane.

👉Evaluating the cost and feasibility of new project.

What Does An Aerospace Engineer DO

👉Examining faulty or malfunctioning parts of an aircraft and

solving the issue.

👉Designing new parts for aircraft in coordination with the

design team
What Does An Aerospace Engineer DO
👉 Analysing the ill-effects of aviation on the environment
and comping up with new ways to make flights more
environment - friendly

👉 Finalising the design of parts by considering all the quality

standards.
What Does An Aerospace Engineer DO

👉 Ensuring that the manufacturing and designing process

is in complete adherence to engineering principles,
safety norms and customers requirements.

👉 Making new and improved standards for aircraft to

minimise risks.
Aerospace Engineering Eligibility Criteria
Diploma in Aerospace Engineering : For taking admission in the diploma
course, you must pass the class 10th exam with a minimum of 50% marks with
science and math as compulsory subjects.

Undergraduate Degree Programs (BE/B Tech) : If you want to take

admission in the undergraduate program, you must complete your 12th in
science (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) with a minimum of 60% from a
recognized board
Aerospace Engineering Eligibility Criteria

Master’s Program (M Tech/ME) : For taking admission into the master’s

program, you must complete your graduation in the aerospace engineering
branch with CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks, Moreover, you must get the minimum
qualifying marks in the GATE examination.

Students who have completed a technical diploma, five-year Architecture

(B.Arch.), Postgraduate in Mathematics/Science/Statistics/Computer
Applications are also eligible to pursue aerospace engineering.
If one wants to join ISRO, then he/she have to appear in a competitive written examination conducted by ISRO
itself every year in order to make recruitment scientists or engineer.

Required eligibility for ISRO:

👉Must be citizen of India.
👉Must possess B.Tech. or B.E. degree in engineering disciplines such as electronics, mechanical,
computer science or electrical.
👉Must have taken minimum 60% marks throughout the academic career.
👉Candidate must below the age of 35 years.
Eligibility
⋆ Applicants must have completed B.E./B.Tech., or any other equivalent qualification with a first-class
obtaining a minimum aggregate of 65% marks, or a CGPA of 6.84/10. ISRO is highly strict about the CGPA or
marks for eligibility considerations, and will not consider anything less than the given criteria. The average
percentage of marks in all semesters of the concerned degree will be considered for calculating the overall
aggregate or CGPA.

⋆ Candidates pursuing the final year of degree will also be eligible to apply
⋆ Candidate having a Diploma + B.E./B.Tech (Lateral Entry) will also be deemed eligible only if they complete
their degree obtaining a first-class with an aggregate minimum of 65% marks or CGPA 6.84/10.

⋆ Engineering Post Graduates will be eligible to apply provided they have obtained the minimum marks in
B.Tech required to fulfil the educational eligibility criteria.

⋆ Applicants who have pursued an Integrated course - B.E/B.Tech and M.E/M. Tech will also be deemed eligible
provided they can furnish Graduation certificate for B.E/B. Tech separately in first class with an aggregate
minimum of 65% marks or CGPA 6.84/10.

⋆ Candidates who have obtained part-time B.E/B. Tech degree will also be eligible. However, candidates who
have finished B.E./B.Tech through correspondence will not be eligible for employment at ISRO.
The ISRO selection process can vary depending on the post applied. In
general, the selection process consists of two stages –

– Written Test

– Skill Test/ Interview

In order to join NASA, one must meet the following eligibility conditions:

👉Citizen of United States.

👉Good eye sight.
👉Normal blood pressure.
👉Height must be above 157 cm.
👉Candidate must have engineering degree in Aeronautics, Aviation or
Physical Science.
The Dragon spacecraft is capable of carrying up to 7 passengers to and from
Earth orbit, and beyond. It is the only spacecraft currently flying that is capable
of returning significant amounts of cargo to Earth, and is the first private
spacecraft to take humans to the space station.
Aerospace engineering isn’t just going to have a bright future, it is going to be
revolutionizing in more ways than one.
☛ Japan recently unveiled its flying car stating that it would go into mass production by 2026.
☛ Reusable rockets and space tours are definitely a thing. Companies are already working on
their mission to take people to space for tours and space rides.

☛ The concept of zero fuel aircraft can be used in Unmanned Ariel Vehicles to various uses like
delivery, defense, agricultural sector, Ariel photography, and providing internet access to remote
places. This will be a thriving sector in future aerospace engineering. Two experimental
solar-powered aircraft called solar impulse 1 and solar impulse 2 has been already been developed
and tested. Both aircraft has completed its test flight and crossed county borders.
