LAB 10

1.0 TOPIC: AQL SAMPLING PLAN

2.0 OBJECTIVE: At the end of the lab, students must be able to:

a) Determine sample size and defect tolerance using AQL table.

3.0 INTRODUCTION

AQL (Acceptable Quality Limit) Sampling is a method widely used to

define a production order sample to find whether or not the entire product
order has met the client's specifications. Based on the sampling data, the
QC can make an informed decision to accept or reject the lot. The “AQL
tables” are statistical tools at the disposal for product inspections. They
are an industry standard help determine two key elements:
 How many samples should be picked and inspected, among a batch
of product or parts?
 Where is the limit between acceptability and refusal, when it comes to
defective products?

4.0 APPARATUS AND REAGENTS

a) Raw materials
b) ANSI / ASQ Z1.4, MIL-STD 105E

5.0 PROCEDURE DERIVING SINGLE-SAMPLING PLANS

a) The lot size submitted for inspection is 41, and it is agreed that the
AQL should be 4.0%. The normal inspection level will be adopted.

5.1 Single sampling plan under normal inspection

a) Table Sample Size Code Letters, the size code letter for a lot size
of 41 and general inspection level II is D.
b) Table Single Sampling Plan under normal inspection is n = 8, c = 1,
and r = 2
c) Sample size of 41 is to be inspected.
d) If the number of nonconforming units is 1 or less, the lot is
accepted.
e) If the number of nonconforming units is more than or equal to 2, the
lot is rejected.

5.2 Single sampling plan under tightened inspection

c) Sample size of 41 is to be inspected.
d) If the number of nonconforming units is 1 or less, the lot is
accepted.
e) If the number of nonconforming units is more than or equal to 2, the
lot is rejected.

5.3 Single sampling plan under reduced inspection

a) Table Sample Size Code Letters, the size code letter for a lot size
of 41 and general inspection level II is D.
b) Table Single Sampling Plan under normal inspection is n = 3, c = 0,
and r = 2
c) Sample size of 41 is to be inspected.
d) If no nonconforming unit is found, the lot is accepted.
e) If the number of nonconforming units is more than or equal to 2, the
lot is rejected.

The single sampling plan for each type of inspection is as follows:

Type of Inspection Single Sampling Plan

Normal n=8 c=1
Tightened n=8 c=1
Reduced n=3 c=0

6.0 CONCLUSION

a) Prepared the conclusion of the results from the use of AQL tables
and state the actions that need to be taken.

7.0 QUESTION

a) How is AQL level calculated ?

b) How do you determine sample size?
