GUIDELINES

FOR
RE-OPENING OF CAMPUS
IN VIEW OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC
(FOR STUDENTS)

Guidelines for re-opening of campus in view of Covid-19 pandemic
(For Students)

1. Introduction:

1.1 During Covid-19 pandemic, in consideration of safety and well-being of the students,
faculty and staff, Amity University’s teaching-learning and assessment process smoothly
transitioned from face-to-face mode to remote teaching mode from 16th March 2020. The
academic calendar (2020-21) of senior students had commenced from July 2020 itself as
per normal schedule due to sincerity, commitment and hard work of faculty and staff.
The University has taken several initiatives for students’ wellbeing, safety and continued
learning such as availability of e-content/e-resources on ALMS, webinars by experts from
industry and academia from across the globe, virtual labs, online examinations, Online
Counselling and Guidance, Online Students support services, online mentoring, Co-
Curricular & Extra-Curricular activities, Club-committee and many other activities.
1.2 The Government of India through its Ministries, viz., Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry
of Health, Ministry of Ayush and Ministry of Education took several initiatives to contain
the spread of the virus and issued directives and advisories to educate the people about
the gravity of the infection from Coronavirus and the measures to protect from it. Specific
instructions were also issued to the universities and colleges by the Ministry of Education
and the UGC in this regard. UGC has issued:

a. “Guidelines on Re-opening of Campus post Covid-19 Pandemic”


b. “Guidelines on Examinations and Academic Calendar for the Universities in view
of Covid-19 Pandemic and Subsequent Lockdown”.
c. UGC guidelines on Academic Calendar for the first year UG & PG students of the
University for the session 2020-21 in view of Covid-19 Pandemic”

1.3 Keeping in view the uncertainties of future due to COVID-19 pandemic and its impact,
the University plans to re-open its campuses in a phased manner, ensuring safety, health
and well-being of all students, faculty and staff. Following are some of the issues,
required to be handled by all HoIs, HoDs, Faculty, staff and students:

a. To follow the advisories/ guidelines/ directives issued by the Central/State


Government/ Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/ Ministry of Education/ UGC/
Any other Statutory Body from time to time to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
b. Anxiety, mental health and psychological issues of students developed during the
lockdown period and fear of infection after the opening of campuses.
c. Safety measures including sanitisation of premises, thermal screening, ensuring
physical distancing, face-cover/mask-wearing, respiratory hygiene and hand-hygiene
etc.
d. Varied conditions of the pandemic in the state, area and environment where the
students mainly live while making risk assessment and planning to address these
challenges.

2 Academic Planning Before Opening of the Campus

2.1 Deans, HoIs to plan teaching learning and assessment for Ph.D. scholars, Masters
students, Final year students and students for Lab based Courses in the campus, followed

by students of other batches and programmes.
2.2 The University will reopen in four phases as mentioned below:

1. Students of First Year for their lab-based courses will be called
to the campus.
2. Also, students of First Year of all domains interested to come to
campus for face-to-face classes (as per Amizone Survey 15th March,

conducted before re-opening) will also be allowed to come to 2021
campus for hybrid classes with prior permission.
3. Its optional for the student to join the campus for face to face
classes or continue to attend classes remotely on MS Teams.
International Students facing difficulty due to travel restrictions may intimate their
Programme leader/HoI for necessary guidance
 Theory based courses will continue to be held online on MS-Teams platform.
 Guest Lectures/Webinars will continue to be held online.

However, for all 4 phases mentioned above, not more than 50% of the total students should be
present in a lab /classroom at any point of time and necessary guidelines/protocols to prevent the
spread of COVID-19 are observed by students, faculty and HoIs.

3. Teaching-Learning:

3.1 Teaching hours in a day may be extended, as per requirements of the institution. Six-day
schedule may be followed so that classes can be conducted in phases and the seating
arrangement be made keeping in view the requirements of physical distancing.
3.2 Classroom doors to remain open throughout the day to minimize physical contact while
opening or closing.
3.3 For the programmes, other than those mentioned above, remote mode of teaching learning
shall continue till university is fully opened and all students have joined university.
However, if required, students may visit their respective departments in a small number
for consultation with the faculty members, after seeking prior appointments to avoid
crowding, while maintaining physical distancing norms and other safety protocols.
3.4 Theory courses will majorly be taught in remote mode till situation improves for 100%
on campus classes. However, Faculty may conduct classes in hybrid mode, where some
students attend class face-to-face on campus and remaining students attend same class on
remote mode on Ms-Teams.
3.5 Keeping in mind the COVID-19 situation students Study tours, field works etc may be
discouraged, unless its unavoidable. Proper precautions must be taken and following all
relevant protocols.
3.6 All such programmes and extracurricular activities should be avoided where physical
distancing is not possible.
3.7 As far as possible NTCC projects should be on campus for lab based projects. For survey
based projects students should be counselled to avoid exposure to the virus. However, for
industry/research based internship students must observe COVID-19 safety protocols.
3.8 Organising cultural activities, meetings etc. at the university campus may be avoided.
However, such extra- curricular and sports activities may be allowed where physical
distancing is feasible and is in accordance with the Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines,
issued under Disaster Management Act, 2005 from time to time.

4. Counselling and Mentoring:

4.1 Counsellor/Faculty Mentor/Programme Leaders will be available in ACGC/Institutions


so that students can talk with them about their anxiety, stress, fear or any other issue.
4.2 To abide by the social distancing norms, Online/Remote Mentor Mentee sessions
continue to be conducted. It is important for the faculty mentors to interact with their
mentees virtually (or physically for students coming to campus) during this period to
remove any doubts which students may have.
4.3 All students are encouraged to avail services of ACGC as and when they have any issue,
emotional, psychological. ACGC and Student support helpline provides 24*7 counselling
to students.
4.4 COVID-19 help groups of students will be formed, headed by programme leader/ senior
faculty. The group can identify friends/ classmates in need of help and provide the
immediate necessary help.
4.5 All the faculty members, students and staff should be aware of the Web page named
“Manodarpan” – created on the Ministry of Education website to provide psychosocial
support for Mental Health & Well-being during the COVID – 19 outbreaks and beyond.
The web page contains advisory, practical tips, posters, videos, do’s and don’ts for
Psychosocial support, FAQ and online query system. Also, a National Toll Free

Helpline (8445440632) for country wide outreach to students from schools, colleges and
universities has also been set up which will provide tele-counselling to address their
mental health and psychosocial issues.

5. Campus Entry:

5.1 Non-resident students shall be allowed to enter the university campus, only after thermal
scanning, sanitization of their hands, wearing of face masks and gloves. Symptomatic
persons shall not be permitted to enter the campus and should be advised to contact the
nearest hospital for clinical assessment.
5.2 For students in car-pool have to get down at the main gate(s) and individual punch their
ID Cards at the turnstile for entry into the university campus. If their entry is permitted,
only then they should enter into the university campus.
5.3 The students will sanitise their hands whenever they touch any surface within the
University Campus like turnstile, railings, drawers, table, chairs, doors, water taps etc.

6. Guidelines for Students who wish to stay in the hostel during academic year 2020-21:

6.1 All hostel students to upload a Covid-19 Negative Test Report (72 hours prior to their
joining the Amity University Hostel) on AMIZONE Covid-19 Undertaking Page
available in left-hand side Menu bar as “Reopening Undertaking”. In case the
students are not able to provide the Covid-19 Negative Test Report, he/she shall remain
in quarantine and self-monitor his/her health for an initial period of 14 days and attend
all the classes remotely on Ms-Teams platform from the Amity University Hostel. The
period of Self-Quarantine will depend on the latest advisories/ guidelines/ directives
issued by the Central/State Government/ Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/
Ministry of Education/ UGC/ Any other Statutory Body from time to time to prevent the
spread of COVID-19.
6.2 All students who will stay in the hostel will be required to get their own linen (bedsheets,
top sheets, pillow slips and towels) and carry all essential daily needs items for 2 weeks.
If they will under self-quarantine, then food will be served to them in their rooms. Charges
for food will be separate.
6.3 On arrival, they will be marked “Reported”. Their baggage will be scanned, checked and
sanitized before they enter their rooms. Room Inventory will be handed over to them.
6.4 On reporting to the campus, students will be thermally scanned.
6.5 Hostel students will be required to wear face masks, maintain physical distance from
others and sanitize frequently when they are outside their rooms. Therefore, the students
should not handshake and maintain physical distance.
6.6 All hostel gates will be closed at 9:00 pm every day. Attendance of students will be
marked by the wardens only after confirming physical presence.
6.7 In case of sickness, students will report the matter to their wardens immediately who will
ensure medical assistance to the students.
6.8 Students will project specific requirements to their wardens. Efforts will be made to meet
the requirement/ provide the assistance, subject to availability and regulations.

7. Supply of Provisions:

7.1 Students will carry their daily need items for the period of quarantine.
7.2 Students will not be permitted to go out of the campus; they may order daily need items
online.
7.3 After collection of the items, student will sanitize them and keep them aside for minimum
of 24 hours before using.
7.4 Students will not be permitted to order cooked food from outside the campus.
7.5 Daily need shop and stationery shop will be opened periodically. Limited number of
students will be allowed into the shop at any given time. Students will be required to carry
their own bag for collection of items. They will sanitize the items before using.
7.6 The shops will not entertain any cash transaction. Only electronic transfer will be
permitted.

8. Generic Preventive Measures/COVID-19 Appropriate Behaviour:

The following measures are to be followed to reduce the risk of COVID19 by students at
all times. The students are required to –

8.1 Maintain self-discipline to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic through social
distancing and maintaining hygienic condition.
8.2 Physical distancing of at least 6 feet to be followed as far as feasible.
8.3 Wear face covers/ masks and take all preventive measures.
8.4 Frequently hand wash with soap (for at least 40-60 seconds) even when hands are not
visibly dirty. Use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers (for at least 20 seconds) can be done
wherever feasible.
8.5 Follow respiratory etiquettes strictly. This involves strict practice of covering one’s
mouth and nose while coughing/sneezing with a tissue/handkerchief/flexed elbow and
disposing of used tissues properly.
8.6 Not to spit anywhere. It is prohibited.
8.7 Self-monitor their health and report any illness at the earliest.
8.8 Install ‘Aarogya Setu App’ in their mobile.
8.9 Be physically and mentally fit to handle any exigencies.
8.10 Inculcate activities that will increase immunity-boosting mechanism which may include
exercise, yoga, eating fresh fruits and healthy food (avoid fast food), sleep timely.
8.11 Not to discriminate fellow students in respect of whom there is a history of COVID-19
disease in the family.
8.12 To give support to their friends under stress due to COVID-19 pandemic.
8.13 Submit themselves for thermal scanning while entering the Campus &/or Hostel.
8.14 To avoid crowding at entry/exit gates, corridors, washrooms, library, cafeterias.
8.15 To strictly follow specific floor markings for safe social distance while entering or
exiting the Campus and/or Hostel, Cafeteria, etc.
8.16 To not to come to the campus if they are having symptoms of fever, cough or difficulty
in breathing.
8.17 Should limit travel between buildings. Unnecessary movement from building to
building should be avoided.
8.18 Carry minimum stationary, notebooks etc. as per the requirements.
8.19 Students allowed to attending face-to-face teaching-learning processes from the

University Campus, are required to bring their Wi-Fi enabled laptops, power banks and
other associated accessories.
8.20 During conduct of classes/Labs/Studio wearing of masks is a must.
8.21 Students should follow the guidelines, advisories and instructions issued by the
Government authorities as well as by the university regarding health and safety
measures in view of COVID-19 pandemic.
8.22 To regularly sanitize your laptops, mobile and other electronic devices.
8.23 Student will be only allowed to move outside in an event of emergency or eminent
necessities.
8.24 To follow the advisories/ guidelines/ directives issued by the Central/State Government/
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/ Ministry of Education/ UGC/ Any other
Statutory Body from time to time to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
