The Effects of COVID-19 Pandemic to the Academic Performance of 3rd Year BSED Students of

Daraga Community College

INTRODUCTION

Education is one of the main reasons of the success of one’s future. It is also said that education is the
key to a better future that is why most Filipinos are acquired and blessed with the right to be educated
and work after graduated. Now, Philippines is facing new struggle- the COVID 19 Virus, that
changed the world. It has altered behaviors, relations, and lifestyles. In terms of education, there are
many schools closed, exams and events were postponed, limited health information services and
socialization discouragement to everyone. With the continuous increase of the Covid-19 cases, there
are many factors that affects the lives of people including educational system in the Philippines.
The Department of Education (DepEd) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) came up with
type of learning that will provide the continuity of education nationwide by means of online classes
and modular classes which is known as the Synchronous/Asynchronous type of Education. This type
of education became alternative way for teachers and students to communicate with the learnings.
Due to the demand of the said type of education, there are several precautions and guidelines in
doing this kind of educational approach that teachers and students must do. It also required
technology like laptop, computers, cellphones and especially internet connections. There are many
incidents where students and teachers have hardship in conducting lessons and reports since they
must communicate using technology and internet connections.

Because of this pandemic, we, the BCAED 3rd students conducted research that identifies the effects
of the pandemic to the academic performance especially to the 3 rd year students of Daraga
Community College. It also includes the factors that affects every student in terms of education
negatively or positively. We also conduct surveys to 3 rd year students so that we can summarize,
collect data, and gather additional information about the effects of this pandemic. With this kind of
methods in research, we can determine what are the good and bad effects of having classes during
this kind of situation.
