TASK 1:

1. What is the basis of Morality according to utilitarian?

- According to utilitarian, the basis of morality is when an action makes one happy,
then it is good, and an act is bad if it results to losses or disadvantages.

2. Should a consequence be the basis for moral action? Why?

- YES. Because rule consequentialism bases moral rules on their consequences.
Whether acts are good or bad depends on moral rules. Moral rules are chosen solely
based on their consequences.

TASK 3:

1. Is the principle of maximum utility just? Why?

- No. Because this principle only focused on individual benefit and it also has weakness
that may lead to other’s consequences that may be bad or good. Some of the individual
think about getting advantage and was already self centered and not thinking the others.

2. How do individual preferences affect morality?

- Individual preferences affect morality by means of the disadvantages/results that is
negative by means of being self-centered or just thinking about the beneficial of the
actions. It abides the morality through taking actions not thinking the others.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION:
- For me, her husband is right if we look to utilitarian principle since her husband is also
thinking the possible ways and for their child. She must decide for the benefit of the
family without going out of the country since she has an infant and it is better to have
a family that is together. For me, I guess it is not right to leave a child in infant stage
since it needs the care of a true mother. I agree and it is acceptable to me that the
government allow OFW to work abroad since there is also benefit for both. It is a help
also to the country.
