CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION

Autodesk ReCap is reality capture software that helps you to create intelligent 3D data
from photos and scans and use them in other CAD, BIM and 3D modeling
software. ReCap enables users to register over a hundred scans into a single file that can
be used in other Autodesk applications, such
as Revit, AutoCAD, Inventor and Navisworks
For any design or renovation project you need to capture existing conditions but
traditional methods of surveying are painful, time-consuming and tedious. But reality
capture is changing the way we survey. It’s a process that captures, measures and maps
millions of surface points to build a textured, high-resolution precise 3D model of your
site. You’ll be able to scan quickly and accurately making it easier to survey, plan,
renovate and construct new buildings or infrastructure. What reality capture offers is the
ability to quickly, easily and cheaply capture reality, bring it into the design space and
design in context. It means that you can start with the objects that already exist in the real
world as opposed to a blank screen.
To start a project with reality capture you need to go through 3-steps process:
Capture. Gather detailed data using lidar or photogrammetry technology. A camera
mounted to a drone or a laser scanner can scan the site in hours, not days. Some laser
scanners are now small and light enough to carry in a backpack and they continue to
reduce in cost.
Compute. Autodesk ReCap Pro automatically registers, cleans up and analyzes the data.
The end result is a point cloud or mesh that is ready to use with CAD and 3D modeling
software.
Create. Once you’ve imported the data you’re ready to start designing, working with
information that’s up-to-date and accurately represents real world site conditions.
Autodesk gained the original ReCap technology after the acquisition of the company
2
Alice Labs in 2011. ReCap Pro is the part of Architecture, Engineering & Construction
Collection. ReCap Pro includes ReCap Photo (formerly Autodesk ReMake). When 30
days free trial is finished, you can subscribe to ReCap Pro or continue using the free
features of ReCap.

lacked the mainstream appeal to attract new skaters.
In 2003 Go Skateboarding Day was founded in southern California by the International
Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) to promote skateboarding throughout the
world. It is celebrated annually on June 21 "to define skateboarding as the rebellious,
creative celebration of independence itcontinues to be." According to market research
firm American Sports Data the number of skateboarders worldwide increased by more
than 60 percent between 1999 and 2002—from 7.8 million to 12.5 million.

CHAPTER 2
WORKING OF PROJECT

Autodesk ReMake is no longer available as a stand-alone subscription starting September

7, 2017 and is replaced by ReCap Photo, available through a subscription to Recap
Pro.Current ReMake Pro subscribers can continue to use ReMake until the end of their
current contract. However, the photo-to-3D cloud service is only available in Recap
Photo starting December 1, 2017.

ReMake was developed to reconstruct and process photo-based 3D models of objects. In

addition to the existing features of ReMake, ReCap Photo has new features to serve UAV
and drone workflows for the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC)
industry. These features include:

Set GCPs (Ground Control Points, survey points) in any coordinate system.
Process up to 1,000 photos for aerial reconstructions and up to 300 photos for object
reconstructions with a new photogrammetry engine.
Optimized processing of oblique and nadir photos (photos taken by drones and UAVs at
90 degrees above the site).

The free service is discontinued and all jobs starting December 1, 2017, will require cloud
credits. For more information, see Cloud Credit Usage.
Starting December 1, 2017, the only way to access the service is through ReCap Photo
which requires a ReCap Pro subscription.
As of April 14, 2021, 3D photo reconstruction job pricing in ReCap Photo is being
amended from its current 3-tiered model to a simpler multi-tiered model. Cost of jobs will
5
continue to be determined by the number of photos processed. As of April 14, 2021, this
is the new multi-tiered pricing

Note: The maximum number of photos that can be processed in one job remains
unchanged at 1,000 for aerial reconstruction.

Updating the consumption of Cloud Credits through usage of ReCap Photo as such gives
customers more flexibility in determining the quality setting desired and enables more
economical consumption of Cloud Credits.

ReCap Pro annual and multi-year subscriptions do not include cloud credits annually.
Additional cloud credits can be purchased from Autodesk Resellers or the Autodesk
Store.

CHAPTER 3
PROCEDURE
STEP-1
Firstly, create your Autodesk account. Access
Next, enter your name, e-mail address and password. Check ‘I agree to terms’ checkbox
then create an account.
It sent a confirmation e-mail to the registered address, so click the verification link in it.

STEP-2
Check if your PC meets the system requirement, and press ‘NEXT’ if it does.

STEP-3
Choose ‘A business user’ or ‘A student or teacher’. Either of them is ok.
After choosing your language, press ‘NEXT’. Enter the name, address, telephone,
country of your company. After filling all required fields, start downloading.
STEP-4
When the download is completed, the screen shown above should be brought up.
Press the Install button on the right.
You will be asked to agree to the terms about product information and so on,
twice. After you agree to them, press ‘NEXT’ to brings up the screen shown
above.
In this tutorial, we need Recap Photo only. Uncheck the ‘Autodesk Recap’ box on
the upper side and start the installation.
That’s all for the installation of Recap Photo.
※ The installation may take a while.
STEP-5
Take the photos of the object you want to make 3D model from.
7
In this tutorial, I use my bag as an example.
Since you need photos from all directions around the object, take photos while
moving around it slowly.
You need to take at least 20 photos.
When taking photos, do not take any other large objects in the camera view, and
put away anything around the object as possible.

Select all the photos taken by clicking them on the screen.Click ‘Create’ if you
don’t see any problem with them.
You can find the photos uploaded just now in ‘My Cloud Drive’. It shows that the
conversion from the photos into 3D model is in progress on the cloud drive.
After the model is created, hover the mouse cursor on the photo to bring up the
download icon (a down arrow) in the bottom-right corner of the photo. Press it to
download the 3D model.

8
When the download is completed, the 3D model of the object is stored in ‘My
Computer’. Click it to check.

Does it look like a 3d model now? If so, the conversion is successfully completed.
If the model contained other objects or a part of the target object was missing, take more
photos or adjust the angle of the camera.
(I will post another article to show the tips when taking photos).
Download the 3D model.
9
Click the Export button on the toolbar on the left of the screen. Select the right-most
‘Export’ icon.

CHAPTER 4 RESULTS

I am a beginner using the free trial version of recap photo. I have watched all the
tutorial videos on your site and youtube, but many of them are out of date or do not
address how to fix model issues. I explain my process and problems in the screen cast
video below.
Basically, after attempting to create a rig that allows me to shoot around the object from
the same distance and different heights with a green screen background and shooting
120+ clear images, after uploading I get a mess that looks like two mutated skulls merged
together. There does not seem to be any way to take manual control or to fix these
extreme model issues. Please watch the screencast video below for more information and
view of my project. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Import laser scans and photographs with ReCap Pro to deliver a point cloud or mesh in
support of BIM (Building Information Modelling) processes and collaborate across teams
with real-world data to support a wide range of use cases in architecture, engineering and
construction.

CHAPTER 5
CONCLUSION
After 100% process completion we will get down load option which can be
indicatedby downward arrow head. Click on it and download the processed file by
selecting thefolder/location wherever you wish.•Downloaded file will be in .rcm format.
Click on that to open.
Please add screenshots of your Autodesk recap photo exerice in observation book
