There are 6 FCS pathways offered in the state of Idaho which include:
- Cosmetology HS
The FCS pathway that I am choosing to focus on is the culinary arts pathway for
high schools. The main courses taught in this pathway are as follows:
If this pathway isn’t offered at my school, I would start by talking with the principal
about what would be needed to incorporate these courses into a school curriculum. I
would also research the course outcomes and purposes behind each course to present
as a case to make for implementing the pathways course. I would have students start
with taking the introductory course followed by the intermediate courses and ending with
the capstone course. They will have the opportunity to take an elective course if they so
desire.
I would talk with other high school culinary teachers in the surrounding areas to
see how they implement their lesson plans as well as CTE state advisors to see what I
need to have in order for the instructional outcomes to be met. After talking with other
culinary teachers and a CTE state advisor and reviewing the instructional outcomes of
the courses, I would then create units that would go over certain materials with unit tests
at the end of each unit. At the end of the year, there will be an exam that is a
culmination of questions from each unit to further test the students knowledge and
retention of the material. From these assessments, lessons for each class will be
created.
