Professional Development Hours

I completed a total of eleven professional development hours over the course of the

semester. Those hours included attending FCCLA meetings, judging at an FCCLA event,

attending an IFHE board meeting, and attending a teachers conference. I learned a lot about

FCCLA at the meetings and events. I didn’t participate in FCCLA in high school so having that

opportunity to experience it and learn about it has sparked a new interest in becoming a future

advisor at the high school I’ll be teaching at eventually. At the teachers conference I learned

about how to prevent and correct a lesson when it begins to go wrong. I also learned about

SPED (Special Education) and GATE (Gifted And Talented) students and how they can go

hand-in-hand with each other. I chose these professional development opportunities primarily

because they seemed interesting. I wasn’t quite sure what I would learn as a result of attending

these events but I’m glad I did go. The experiences I gained have helped me develop a greater

passion for teaching Family and Consumer Sciences.
