The most rewarding part of this experience for me was the final performance of just
being able to sing this piece all the way through. I do not view myself as a singer, so it was pretty
exciting for me to see myself being able to sing a song while also playing an accompanying
instrument. I am not the most confident in my singing abilities, so it’s nice to have a final product
A challenging part of this song for me was the bridge. I had a more difficult time feeling
the harmonic rhythm/structure of this section- which, in turn, made my pitch not always
accurate. Every time I performed the song, the bridge the second time was always better than the
first time it happened. I think I just need more work with internalizing the harmonies of that
section.
This activity would be really useful to help students improve upon their skills of
audiating pitches and melodies more independently. I think aural training is lacking in a lot of
instrumental ensemble groups, but this would be an excellent activity to help students begin or
continue working on it. This activity would also be really great for students to do either
independently or with more guided direction, if they needed it. For more advanced students, you
could adapt this assignment and also have them figure out how to sing the harmonies or play
with more complex strum patterns. I think this kind of activity is really useful because it can be
adapted so much to fit the needs of each student, which is usually pretty difficult in a classroom.
