Objectives: Students will play the intro (measures 1-14) of Dramatic Essay with proper

dynamics by using proper bow techniques.

Standards: MIAD. 15. D, MIAD. 16 D, MIAD. 16 G

Materials:
- Music (Dramatic Essay)
- Instruments
- Pencil

Procedure:
● Briefly discuss different dynamics and how to execute them
● Play bars 1-4. Forte with hairpin crescendos/diminuendos to fortissimo.
○ Hear moving notes!
○ Lift and retake bow at the same time
● Play pick up to 5-9
○ Listen for quarter notes
○ Steady bows for sustained notes
○ Big diminuendo in measure 8
● Discuss and point out the dynamics for measure 9-14
○ Talk about lighter bow weight
● Play 9-14
○ Lift and retake bow at the same time
○ Slow and light bow
○ Diminuendo while still hearing moving notes

Assessment:
(Informal)- Listen for correct dynamics during the run-throughs, making sure that students are
using proper bow weight and speed. Also make sure that the important lines can be heard.
