A journey through the cinema world

Objectives

Critical thinking

a. Students explain with their own words the purpose and meaning about what has
happened around cinema as a technological, social and cultural invent. (Standard I,
purposes, goals and objectives)

b. Students express with their own words (clear and precise) the most important
information about cinema as a technological, social and cultural invent.(on a script,
video…). (Standard III, information, Data, evidence and experience).

Communicative

a. Compare how cinema has changed over time and establish comparisons about
things around.
b. Identify the video as a meaning system through which communication is possible,
which implies the recognition of meaning in the messages conveyed by the visual
language of the image (such as bullets, maps, diagrams, formulas, cartoons,
advertising image, etc.).

Linguistic

Grammar: Present perfect, used to.


Vocabulary: Passive voice in present sequence words.

Description
Make a short film (5 mins tops) in which you will show changes in cinema and its influence
in society exploring how cinema was made in the past, comparing with the present.
Register its changes through time and explain its social and cultural influences in society.
You will combine original or found footage videos and your own voices with english subtitles
to present it in a short film festival at the university.

Instructions

1. Define a topic around cinema as a technological, social and cultural invention


considering the social and cultural effects of your topic. (Colombian cinema,
Hollywood, Bollywood, genres, film festivals, cinemas, propaganda, means of
communication, etc.).
2. Think about the aspects of your topic you want to compare and the changes you
want to express. Name your topic.
3. Write a script about what you want to expose (This will be used as subtitles).
4. Establish comparisons on the script about how was your topic before and how it's
currently.
5. Explain on the script how your topic has changed (take into account the time rank
where you located your topic, e.g.: The science fiction in Hollywood (since 1960 to
2020).
6. Track the found footage videos. Then select all what you think is appropriate for the
topic (visual narrative).
7. Make a five minutes long video with all the elements you worked previously.
8. Record a voice in off (audio narrative) from the script.
-Add some music to ambient the video.
-Add English subtitles.
-Add the course details and credits.
9. Present the video. Pretend you are a filmmaker or someone who belongs to the
cinema industry. Your classmates will be the spectators.

Special requirements

Five minutes long, creation of a script, four people per group. The project could be handed
over by a link, usb, e.-mail, Drive or the mean the teacher propose. The students will have to
show their project formally as they are important people from the film industry.
