Major area of research is Communications and Signal Processing. * MS degree from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering under the supervision of Prof. Z.-P. Liang in August 2001. Major area of research was Ima ge Processing. * BE (equivalent to BS) in 1998 from the Department of Electronics and Telecommu nications Engineering, Jadavpur University, India. WORK EXPERIENCE: (Aug 16th, 2008 - present) - I am currently working as a postdoctoral researcher at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution under Dr. James Preisig in the area of signal processing research in underwater acoustic communications. Besides resear ch, as part of my postdoctoral experience I have given three guest lectures at M IT for the graduate course in time series analysis when my professor was traveli ng. My job also requires significant inter-disciplinary team-building skills and I work closely with scientists and engineers of diverse backgrounds to develop engineering systems for real-world applications. (Jan 21, 2008 - Aug 15, 2008) - I worked as a postdoctoral research associate fo r University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. My appointment includes a visiting lecturer appointment at the Department of Electrical and Computer engineering ( ECE) from June 16 - Aug 15, 2008. I also performed research in the area of signa l processing and communications with particular focus on underwater communicatio ns for Dr. Andrew Singer, my research supervisor. (Jan 2, 2007 -Jan 18, 2008) - I worked as a Program Manager for Microsoft (Micro soft Office Shared Services group). Key responsibilities include managing softwa re design, user-oriented technical research, lead cross-team discussions and bui ld consensus on different aspects of product design. (Summer 2001) - I was summer intern at Philips Semiconductors, Hoffman Estates, IL. (Responsibilities: coding in VC++. I designed, implemented and tested a GUI for an ASIC test board in my intern project) (1998-1999) - I worked as a software trainee in DAIS Infotech, India. (Responsib ilities: coding in Java for data-mining applications, customer-oriented market r esearch) CORE COMPETENCIES: I have 11+ years of experience in developing signal processing algorithms using Matlab, and am coming from a strong signal processing research background. My pr imary professional experience is academic but have strong industry experience in leadership and software development skills. I am intimately familiar with Matla b and also have experience in C, VC++ and some Java. My leadership and team-building skills draw on my program management experience at Microsoft but more deeply, from my two years of working in inter-disciplinary environments and driving grant proposals with people from diverse technical and scientific backgrounds. I am looking for a job that draws on my signal processi ng expertise, technical strengths in numerical analysis, statistical methods and optimization techniques, software development experience and team-building and inter-personal skills, and helps me grow as a professional. LEADERSHIP AND TEAM-BUILDING EXPERIENCE My leadership and team-building skills draw on my experience as a program manage ment in Microsoft where I worked across different teams to build consensus over software design, interacted closely with usability researchers, developers, test ers, and other managers, participated in usability studies and customer site vis its, researched the competition and wrote technical specifications for the next product cycle. But my most significant leadership opportunities have been at my current job, wh ich has a high focus on building research programs in an inter-disciplinary soft -money environment to study and build real-world engineering systems. This has r equired me to play an active role as the principal investigator of grant proposa ls I have written, and have enjoyed working closely with people from diverse tec hnical and scientific backgrounds to understand their needs and build consensus on what we wish to build, the technical issues involved, and how to solve them t o meet the common goal of the program. I am also an active member of the International Committee at my organization and strive to make my workplace supportive of the unique challenges and needs of ou r international employees. MENTORING EXPERIENCE I helped my professor advise his graduate students during my postdoctoral term a t UIUC and have also been actively involved with graduate students working in my area at WHOI. I have also mentored my students through grad school in my years of teaching as a TA and later, as a lecturer at UIUC. PROFESSIONAL SERVICE EXPERIENCE I co-organized the special session on "Sparse Approximations" at the 159th Meeti ng Of The Acoustical Society Of America, Baltimore, MD, April 19-23, 2010. I have also reviewed several journal articles for IEEE Signal Processing, IEEE J ournal of Oceanic Engineering, and among recent conferences have reviewed articl es for the SYMPOL Ocean Electronics symposium in Cochi, India for which the Ocea nic Engineering Society is technical co-sponsor.
