THE TREND
N atural Rubber (NR) production rose by 12.7% to 71,000 tonnes
during September 2021 from the quantity of 63,000 tonnes
produced during the same month a year ago. The total quantity
produced during April to September 2021 was increased by
27% to 325,000 tonnes from 256,000 tonnes produced during
the same period in the previous year. Preliminary estimate
for October 2021 was estimated as 62,000 tonnes, decreased
12.7% from September 2021 due to heavy rain occurred in the
major producing State, Kerala.
Rubber goods manufacturing industry in the country consu-
med a total quantity of 106,000 tonnes during September 2021
declined by 1.9% from 108,000 tonnes consumed during
August 2021. A total quantity of 630,000 tonnes of NR was
consumed during the first half of 2021-22 recording a high
positive growth of 44.9% year-over-year. This represents a
high positive growth of 53.2% in auto-tyre sector and 25.7% in
general rubber goods sector. The preliminary NR consumption
for October 2021 was estimated at 103,000 tonnes.
India imported 42,062 tonnes of NR during September 2021
making the toal volume imported during the first half of the
current fiscal at 236,596 tonnes compared to 183,805 tonnes
imported during the same period in the previous year. The
country exported 2,421 tonnes of NR during the first half of
2021-’22 compared to 2,129 tonnes during the same period
a year ago.
Coming to Synthetic Rubber (SR), the domestic production
increased by 32%, during the first half of 2021-22 to 247,950 tonnes
compared to 187,835 tonnes produced during the first half of
2020-21. The cumulative SR consumption in the country also
increased by 51.3% to 366,445 tonnes during the period April
to September 2021 as against 242,140 tonnes of SR consumed
during the same period of previous year.
