2. ____ CH4 + __2__ O2 → ____ CO2 + _2_ H2O
3. ____ C3H8 + __5__ O2 → _3__ CO2 + _4__ H2O
4. __2__ C8H18 + __25__ O2 → __16__ CO2 + __18__ H2O
5. ____ FeCl3 + _3___ NaOH → ____ Fe(OH)3 + __3__NaCl
Activity 1B. Balance and write the type of chemical reaction
1. _2_ KNO3 + heat → _2_ KNO2 + _2_O2 _____DECOMPOSITION__________________

2. _2 K + 2_ H2O → _2 KOH + __ H2 _____SINGLE-REPLACEMENT__________

3. _4_ Fe + _6_ O2 → _2_Fe2O3 ___SYNTHESIS__________________
4. _3_ BaCl2 + 2_ Na3AsO4 → _ Ba3(AsO4) 2 + 6_ NaCl ____DOUBLE-DISPLACEMENT___
5. __ MgO + _2_ HBr → __ MgBr2 + __ H2O __________NEUTRALIZATION___________________

Activity 1C. Write the chemical equation and balance the equation
1. 2`NH4NO3 2N2+O2+4H2O
2. 2Ag+2HCl 2AgCl+H2
3. 2Hg+O2 2HgO
4. Sn(OH)2+2HCl SnCl2+2H2O
Activity 2. Answer to problems with solution
1.
Balance Equation: 2CO + O2 2CO2

Relationships: 2 moles CO = 1 mole O2 = 2 moles CO2

Using Dimensional Analysis:

3.2 moles O2 x 2 moles CO/ 1 mole O2 = 6.4 moles CO

3.2 moles O2 x 2 moles CO2/ 1 mole O2 = 6.4 moles CO2

2.
Balance Equation: 2CO + O2` 2CO2

Relationships: 2 moles CO = 1 mole O2 = 2 moles CO2

Mass:
CO = 28.01 g
O2 = 32.00 g
CO2 = 44.01 g

Using the molar mass of the desired quantity to convert the moles into mass:

48.0 g x 1 mol O2 / 32.00 g x 2 mol CO / 1 mol O2 x 28.01 g / 1 mol CO = 84.0 g CO

48.0 g x 1 mol O2 / 32.00 g x 2 mol CO2 / 1 mol O2 x 44.01 g/ 1 mol CO = 132 g CO2
