ABSTRACT

Aquaponics has been widely regarded as the most environmentally friendly,

naturally grown agriculture for the future. Aquaponics is the science of raising fish

and plants in one interconnected, soilless environment, combining aquaculture and

hydroponics. The fish waste is used as a food supply for the plants, and the plants act

as a natural buffer for the water in the recirculating method where the fish lives in.

The aim of the project is to create a prototype for an IoT-Enabled Monitoring

System for Aquaponics. It monitored the water level inside the tank as well as the

height of the plants in the grow bed. It also monitored the acidity and basicity of the

water for the fish to live in and not harmed them. A Prototyping model was used in

the development of the project. The components used in this project are the following

ultrasonic sensor, DIY more ph sensor, 20*4 Liquid Crystal Display, ESP8266 Wi-Fi

Module, light sensor, relays, Arduino Uno R3.

Testing the prototype was done to observe and evaluate whether the objectives

set were met and whether it functions the way it was expected to. Based on the series

of testing conducted all the sensor of the prototype successfully performed its

functions.

When water in the fish tank is low the system automatically refill the lost

water inside the tank. Plant height is measured in centimeter using the ultrasonic

sensor. Ph sensor is used to read water ph value, when water is acidic system

automatically pump out water and is being replaced with new water. Data readings

can be viewed through LCD and Webpage data is saved to Thingspeak.com. The

project was finally developed, where it realizes its objectives. It successfully

measured the water level and plant height and read pH value of the water. Data is send to
Thingspeak.com and viewed in the webpage that can generate reports of the

saved data online.
