MUSIC

A.Firstly, we can use the word tempo to talk about whether music is fast or slow and the
word melody to talk about the tune of the music. Harmony is the word we use to talk
about the sound we make when we play several musical notes at the same time. If
someone asks what genre of music you like, they just mean what style or type you prefer.

When you listen to a record in english, pay attention to the lyrics (words) and you might
learn some new English expressions. If it’s a hit (successful or popular song) you will
hear it a lot and if it’s a song you and your boyfriend/girlfriend both love, you might
say “It’s our song”.

If you go to a gig (concert), you might hear a band playing original songs

or covers (other people’s songs). If you are on the subway in some large cities, you might
hear musicians busking (playing in public places) and give them a donation if you like
their music.

Songs that are easy to remember can be described as catchy and a song that’s so catchy
you can’t stop singing it is called an earworm. If you love music, you might want to take
up (start learning to play) an instrument and learn to play your favourite tunes or you
could learn to DJ and make a mixtape (collection of your favourite tunes) for your
friends.

So what’s your favourite song and can you describe it in English?

Tempo: nhịp độ

Melody: giai điệu

Harmony: sự hòa âm

Genre: loại, thể loại

Mixtape: băng CD

I can't play any musical instrument.

Here are the most common musical instruments: piano, guitar, saxophone, violin, flute,
drums, trumpet, ukulele, cello, clarinet, harp, and harmonica.

It’s now part of my daily routine and I find it’s a great way to start the day. I generally
have a good chance of finding something new to listen to as I use a lot of different
services to search for music. It is ___  ___ (highly) that I will find good music!
I often search on YouTube, but I don’t usually pay for services because it seems
unnecessary. I _______ (tend) pay for music.
Sometimes, however, I will listen for too long and waste my entire morning! I don’t

Vocabulary

To be on the lookout (for something)

This is a common expression that means you are searching or looking for something.
 The pirate is on the lookout for land
 I am on the lookout for a cheap house
 My mum is always on the lookout for danger

Highly likely
“Likely” is an adjective to show probability, or the chance of something happening. If
something Is likely to happen, then there is a 75% chance it will happen.

 The clouds are dark so it is likely to rain today.

We can modify this adjective with an adverb, such as “highly”, “very” or “not very”.

These words change the probability slightly. For example, “highly likely” would be about

This is another very common expression which we use when we are having so much fun
or are absorbed in an activity and we forget about time.
 I was so busy working that I lost track of time and completely forgot to have
lunch!
 Whenever I listen to music I lose track of time and the day goes by quickly.
 It’s easy to lose track of time when you are doing something you enjoy.

To come across
Finally today, “come across” is a phrasal verb that means “to find something by
accident”. In other words, you didn’t plan on finding it, but you saw it anyway.

 I came across a great sandwich shop on the way to work.

 I was looking for my keys when I came across a lost cat.
