 Airworthiness

• Airworthiness is the “Fitness to fly”-Webster Dictionary

• •Airworthiness is the ability of an aircraft or other airborne equipment or
system to be operated in flight and on the ground without significant
hazard to aircrew, ground crew, passengers or to third parties; it is a
technical attribute of materiel throughout its lifecycle.–UK MOD

 Summary

• To ensure Airworthiness, aviation is regulated

internationally by ICAO using the Chicago Convention.

• In Singapore, the body regulating aviation is CAAS using

Singapore Airworthiness Requirements.

• SAR which is part of the Air Nav Act gives effect to

Chicago Convention.

• Can ICAO take legal actions against countries and airlines

that do not conform to ICAO articles (i.e. rules and
regulations)?

• Can CAAS take legal actions against aviation companies

that do not conform to CAAS requirements (i.e. rules and
regulations)?
