Architectural Design –IV Major Project Brief

An NGO based in Delhi works with the crafts people to recycle many waste products into objects of art and
utility. The NGO wants to open a craft village in Delhi so that there is a retail and training centre for the
products. They also invite crafts people from all over India to come and demonstrate and sell their products.
The NGO wants to conduct workshop of children with crafts person so that the children can learn and
appreciate the beauty of crafts forms of India and also to recycle waste products into artefacts NGO wants to
use the whole site efficiently so that a vibrant centre for promoting Indian art as well. Seminars/workshops are
also proposed to be held between traditional artists of contemporary designers for cross learning, It is also
proposed that cuisines of various states be sold in informal kiosks to increase the footfall of people and serve
as an holistic tourist destination as well. Some of the objectives of this craft village are as follows:

Social objectives:
• An interaction place for craftsmen.
•To provide a good working environment for the creation, workshop, exhibition and presentation.
• To fulfil the solitude environment required by artists and craftsmen, coherent with their way of living
and working style.
• As a socialisation ground for craftsmen.

Cultural objectives:
• To promote Indian culture through crafts.
• To blend with the culture of different generations and to promote Indian handicraft, both within inside
and outside India.

Physical objectives:
• To provide an adequate, controlled and ideal environment for craftsmen.
• To provide space for seminars and exhibitions, for exchange of their views and ideas.
• To create a new attraction for tourist.

Economic objectives:
• To enable people to understand the relationship between economics, culture and aesthetics.
• The place maybe developed as a part of tourist spots in Delhi NCR region that would in turn help in
generating certain revenue.
• Addition of employment.

Crafts Village components.

· Administration:Overall management and supervision of activities.

· Research and training: R & D, knowledge sharing, advancement.

· Workshop: Demo rooms on prototype designs. 

· Craft gallery: Craft display, exhibitions. 

· Exhibit, Sales and promotion: Showrooms, shops.

· Supporting units: To manage the complex an administrative body is required.

· Facilities and recreation: Such as restaurants, parking and rest rooms.
