The project was divided between the MCD(22
INDRAPRASTH PARK,DELHI acres) and DDA(60 acers).

MCD is responsible for the greenry

development ,while as DDA is for civil
beautification.

According to the director of horticulture,Y.P.

SINGH ,DDA ,they had to fill 2-5 ft. of soil on
the site to enable plantation.

From the point of view of

maintaining these plants
and trees,they chose hardy
varieties which require
less water.

It was difficult for the plantation due to the methane gas
trapped in the soil.

The remedy was to insert a plastic hose pipe along with

the saplings to escape gas.

large amount of grass on its lawn. This grass is

This grass works very well alongside the large

amount of trees and other pieces of greenery in

around the area. In fact, the DDA plans on
adding more than five thousand different trees
around the park in the future. These will come

INDRAPRASTH PARK,DELHI LAWRENCE HARPIN an eminent
landscape architect says “if one can
step for a moment into an outdoor
space, no matter how small or big
and get a glimpse of sky and the
smell of the earth, trees and flowers
then the overwhelming scale and
density of urban life can be largely
overcome.
With this concept of ecological
approach to landscape
architecture,the park is bifercated in
five gardens or green landmarks.
Smriti Van
Fragrant Garden
Foliage Garden
Bougainville Garden

As a foreground to the Humayun's

tomb, the Fragrant Garden bridges
the past with the present.

It has shrubs and trees, along with

White-scented flowers. This
enhances the aura of the tomb at

emitting fragrance everywhere.

The scents from plants are an

aesthetic experence.They have very
