Non Governmental Organisations or NGO are the organisation which is concerned with

handling different types of activities which aims for the benefit of society at large

especially the underprivileged people.

As the name itself says that it is an NGO and also referred to as a non-profit

organization that works independently and without any pecuniary aid from the

does not reach to government or are not solved by the government then functions

of NGO play a significant role in assigning these issues to the government and few
9
issues are intentionally looked by the NGO. Their main aim is to make the earth a

better place for every human being who is suffering.

Introduction

WELCOME TO UMEED
Something about us
Umeed - A drop of hope (NGO) is formed to provide a platform to nation’s youth.

Founder: Mr. Shubhrajeet Gautam (January 26, 2011)

Currently Umeed is having an outreach of 30,000+ volunteers in 7 states across the

country.

They are working every single day for the under-privileged sections of our society.

Tracing back to the inception, Umeed was established with a small cloth donation
campaign as its first stepping milestone for the organisation. The main motive
behind the establishment was child welfare.

21st century, the era of technology sums up to self-centralization of human life. We

at 'UMEED - a drop of hope' by means of Nukkad-Natak, Theatrical
Performances, Awareness campaigns and a lot more are working against the
prevailing social problems.

We aim to make this world a better place to live in and promotes universal
brotherhood. We strive to fight against the social evil of poverty, illiteracy and all
other deep-rooted worms of society.

Though the inception was just a seedling, But today with our relentless efforts to
mobilize resources and uplift the social condition, We have expanded; penetrating
and spreading amongst masses.

At last, Umeed through its youth force aims to wipe every tear, remove all sorrows
and desires to bring wide smile on every child's face.

❖ About the Founder

SUBHRAJEET GAUTAM

• +91 9711163637
• founder@umeedngo.org
Subhrajeet Gautam, a young college student, was driven by the monumental
dream to bring a day when no child would be deprived of the basic rights be
it food, clothing, education, medical security and healthy living environment.

Like most of us, Subhrajeet too was upset observing the disparities between
privileged and underprivileged children. He never wanted to see children
begging and working as servants.
And unlike most of us, he did something about it and tried to make a
difference.

14
“What I can do, I must do!” These were the words which kept the fire
burning within him and since then acting as a constant source of motivation.

He joined the Social Responsibility Club in his college . He visited slums,

children in hospitals, held teaching classes for street children , and started a
clothes donation movement at a slum the club adopted.

In 2011 Subhrajeet started ‘Umeed: a drop of hope’ with a seed capital of

Rs.1500/- i.e. his monthly pocket money. He felt the urge that something needs
to be done to improve the situation of the underprivileged children . Since
inception 80,000+ children have directly benefitted from this initiative.
Subhrajeet made relentless efforts provided the necessary things e.g. clothes ,
food, medicine and other basic things to thousands of people from the under-
privileged sections of the society.

Subhrajeet was firmly convinced that each of us can, in our own small way,
can bring a difference by being the agents of change . So just imagine the
intensity and impact when all of us are moved to this , the better impact would
be lasting change . His initiatives help youth inculcate respect , sensitivity and
the power of empathizing with others. This enables them to be even more
valuable and appreciated members of our society who paves way for a much
better present as well as future for everyone.

Apart from being the founder of UMEED- A drop of hope , Mr. Subhrajeet
Gautam is a mentor to the organisation and a coach to the stakeholders,
volunteers , interns and other associates of the organisation. He is relentlessly
guiding others and thriving to make a better society bringing lasting impacts.

15
❖ Vision and mission

"UMEED - A DROP OF HOPE" IS A YOUTH CLUB FORMED BY YOUTHS OF

THE NATION, THE BASIC MOTTO OF WHICH IS SOCIAL SERVICE. BESIDES
THE MAIN MOTTO, THE BASIC IDEA OF SUCH A FORMATION IS TO HELP
EACH AND EVERY HUMAN BEING WHO NEEDS HELP.

UMEED WORKS FOR EDUCATION FOR NEEDY CHILDREN WHO ARE

UNDER DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES, SUCH AS CHILD LABOUR,
CHILDREN OF POOREST OF THE PARENTS, CHILDREN INFLICTED AND
AFFECTED WITH HIV/AIDS, STREET AND RUNAWAY CHILDREN,
CHILDREN WITH RARE DISABILITIES, DISASTER STRUCK CHILDREN AND
SLUM CHILDREN. SPECIAL EMPHASIS IS GIVEN ON GIRL EDUCATION AND
WOMEN EDUCATION, SO THAT THEY AND THEIR FAMILIES GET
EMPOWERED.

❖MISSION
Our mission is to make this world a better place where everybody lives
happily with harmony by caring & sharing with love for each other and
promoting the universal brotherhood of mankind . We strive to eradicate
poverty , illiteracy & every other problem on the Earth, so that we give
the coming generations a better world to live by wiping every tear and
removing all the sorrows....only with a desire to see a smile on every
child's face...!!!

16
We at Umeed aim to recognize and value the potential of local resource and
traditional wisdom of people.
Our focus is concentrated on the receiver’s dignity instead of the donor’s
pride.
We promote circular economy by ensuring maximum use of each material.
We value collaborative efforts with partner organizations to increase
effectiveness and scale.
Umeed views every entity as equal stakeholder in the process of development
rather than observing hierarchical relationships.

➢ To let the under privileged children to get out from poverty and helplessness
➢ To free children from Child Labour.
➢ To built up a sensible, honest, self independent, literate, and confident individuals.
➢ To provide them a life of dignity and respect.
➢ To provide them with nutrition and shelter.

Umeed, an NGO working for child education believes that education is both

the means as well as the end to a better life : the means because it empowers an

individual to earn his/her livelihood and the end because it increases one's

awareness on a range of issues - from healthcare to appropriate social behaviour

to understanding one's rights - and in the process help him/her evolve as a better

citizen . Education is the most effective tool which helps children build a strong

foundation ; enabling them to free themselves from the vicious cycle of ignorance

, poverty and disease.

17
Umeed realized that Education for Children cannot be achieved without the

family , particularly , unless the mother is assured of health care and empowered.

Moreover, when an elder sibling is educated and relevantly skilled to be

employable and begins earning , the journey of empowerment continues beyond

the present generation.

Umeed extended its thematic areas of intervention by supporting family health,

livelihood , and women empowerment . Children , their families and the community

become the target group for umeed Foundation's activities as child education

cannot be done in isolation and nothing else but education for children can bring

long lasting change in the society

18
Other projects of Umeed

1)Paridhan

One man's waste can be another man's treasure. It is a more realistic and doable way of
contributing towards the society. Paridhan does not deal in monetary donations but in
old household stuff as Clothes, Toys, Books, and Stationary etc.

and needy people facing great hardship and health risk due to lack of proper clothing
and other basic things in far flung and urban slums of the country and promote child
education in underprivileged class of society. We work towards nullifying the
misbalance caused by us, our society and people; and emphasize the "Reduce, Reuse,
Recycle and Realize" mentality in our daily lives.

2)Knowledge For All

“A man without education is like a building without a foundation.”

Education is the most vital element needed for any country to evolve gracefully.

Education begins at home and continues throughout our life. There are innumerable

aspects to why people need education. It helps them to learn new things, make a good

living and lead a respectable life in the society.

What do we do?

Under our campaign of KNOWLEDGE FOR ALL we aim at providing the most

significant value to the lives of little souls - the value of education.

22
We work hard for slum kids from different parts of the city to help them earn the better

lives they along with their families dream of.

Alongside providing knowledge about the curriculum, we also actively indulge with

the children in making sure they learn and practice sanitation and hygiene maintenance

and acquire the essential life skills.

Academic assistance-

We conduct educational events every Sunday in different slum areas to assist children

living in these slums with their academics. For every area there is a different team of

members including volunteer tutors as well as project managers from different colleges

and universities.

Social skills development-

At Umeed, we are dedicated to not just look at the academics of our young minds, but

also their all-round development. From time to time, we organise activities for children

to play and learn important social skills that help them grow as confident and smart as

any other privileged kid. These activities include several painting, singing and dancing

and poetry competitions.

23
Awareness campaigns-

Our teams are engaged in designing and organising activities to increase awareness

about significant issues like proper sanitation, self-defence, drug abuse so as to protect

them from these evils as well as to make them advocate about these in the future and

eliminate the issues at ground level from their neighbourhood as well.

Takimg part

We invite all colleges/ educational institutes from across the globe to be an essential

part of KNOWLEDGE FOR ALL, mail us a detail copy of proposal about

event/activity on info@umeedngo.org or call us on +919650918653. You can send

entries for the posts of volunteer, coordinator, project manager and college

ambassador. We are looking forward to welcome you to the family.

24
3)GO Green

Go Green is a Umeed a drop of hope initiative to save the environment through tree

plantation and adoption by public and corporate participation and support where

people can plant, gift, donate and adopt trees online in just one click from their

home/office on different occasions and celebrations.

25
We also conduct tree plantation drive with corporates as a part of CSR activity

throughout the year.

Tree Plantation :We strive to replant green belts and forests destroyed by human

action through our innovative well-structured plans and responsible planting by the

help of individuals & corporate alliances. We plant donated plants by people and

corporates in various places of need through our dedicated partners across India under

our proper guidance.

We also conduct tree plantation drives across Delhi and suburbs in Housing Societies,

Corporates Parks, Schools, Colleges, open grounds, barren lands and such any other

available locations throughout the year.

Taking Care of Plants : Just planting a sapling is not enough. We nurse it to become a

Tree. Apart from plantation, a plant needs love and care like a baby until it is self-

sustainable. As we found, most people forget about the plants after plantation and that

is whytheir survival rate is very low.So resolve this problem by taking care of plants

manually as well as through different technical methods such as installation of

automated watering system through “Drip Irrigation” which makes it easy to water the

plants and save water and time.

26
Tree Adoption : We humbly request everyone to adopt trees apart from plantation.

Adopting a tree ensures its success in fully growing and maturing. We arrange

maintenance and care for the adopted tree on your behalf and we ensure the sampling

will become a tree in its time. Please consider adopting a tree as this is a truly

beneficial service to all green life on our Planet!

Become a Green Yatri : Share our message: think about the people in your network,

in your company or in your school who would love to hear that there is a simple and

cheap solution to our planet's biggest challenge.

What we do : Go Green provides a common platform and involve youths in social

and environmental causes & activities and make them understand the importance of

Environment and how the power of youth and togetherness can contribute and bring

positive change in our society and Mother Nature. Here youth and colleges can show

case their green ideas, thoughts, social leadership, innovation, technology and how

they can positively transform environment and society.

We organize discussion, presentation and talk on Green sustainable Leadership,

Sustainable future, Green Idea, Green innovative technology, workshops (on “Best out

of Waste, Waste management, Presentation on Green Birth Day celebration , tree

27
plantation & clean-up drive, Clean & Green campus, Marathon, , Bicycle rally, Human

chain for cause and many other activities as per need and requirements.

This initiative makes our youth a more respectful, proud, and conscious, sensible

character, which will enable them to be even more valuable and appreciated members

of our society. And will help to pave the way for a much better green present and

future for all.

How you and your college can take part: We invite all colleges/ educational

institutes from across the globe to be an essential part of Go Green campaign, mail us

a detail copy of proposal about event/activity on info@umeedngo.org or call us on +91

99998 08366. As a partner of initiative your college will gain a number of invaluable

benefits, such as: Clean & Green campus, opportunity to serve society and humanity,

green events in campus, good will, and positive image in public, green certificate &

mementos.

28
Part 2- Description of the internship

With the help of Training and placement cell of our college I got

acquainted about Umeed- A drop of hope , pan India internship. After

applying to it and qualifying a small interview , first session of it was

conducted on 02. October. 2021 . We were briefed about the organisation

and how the internship will be conducted . Under guidance of our HR MR.

Rajesh Ranjan we were assigned weekly tasks in the field of Marketing,

Fundraising, HR and as the NGO expects us to work in the field

philanthropy we were assigned tasks in Social work and Environment

protection.

29
Aim and Objective

The aim of the internship were as follows:-

i) Getting more subscribers and followers for the NGO using various social
media platforms.

ii) Making people aware about the problems faced by children and women,
and how Umeed is helping those in need.

iii) Raising fund for the NGO .

iv)Making poor labourers aware about the beneficial government schemes,

how they can enroll for the same and also telling them their rights and
labour laws.

30
Need for the study:-
The questionnaire formed were basically for two major purposes, firstly to do social
service under the name of NGO. Secondly, to understand the social media strategy of the
organization , find the drawbacks and suggest the necessary steps needed to be taken to
promote the NGO.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY - The research is appropriate for the use of

Umeed facilities in the field of philanthropy .Umeed will continue to improve its brand
and attract new volunteer, retain current workers and ensure a degree of satisfaction with
their future members.

31
Look for new
leads by
Approach carrying out
existing field visits.
donors for •Drafting
Proposals
donations. •Meeting the CSR
NGO •Cold Calling Heads
Awareness •E-newsletter
•Online Presence
•Digital Marketing

The methodology can be split into 3 steps:

1. Creating NGO Awareness – Building awareness for NGO was the

primary goal. The various campaigns run by the NGO lacked online visibility. It

was essential to boost the online presence of the NGO. Putting status and

awareness for the same would help in creating the awareness.

2. Approach existing donors for donations – Reach out to existing donors,

who are in touch with the NGO in the past and approach them for funding the

exiting & upcoming projects of the organizations.

3. Look for new leads by carrying out field visits – Look for potential leads

or corporates who would be willing to tie up with the organization for various CSR

activities.

32
Methodology

Primary data: I have chosen the questionnaire methods of data collection due to limited

time in hand. While designing data-collection procedure, adequate safeguards against

bias and unreliability must be ensured. I have examined the collected data for

completeness, comprehensibility, consistently and reliability. For the present piece of

research, the investigator has used the following methods:

• Interview

• Observation

• Questionnaire

The research methodology was important for social works task and also promotion of

NGO through social media platform. It was important to know whether the daily wage

labourers are getting the benefits of government schemes and are aware of their basic

rights. Secondly, to know how the online content on Umeed’s website is compelling the

audience and whether they are able to understand the vision and mission of the

organization. To know the willingness of people to donate for the NGO.

Task 1

Social work week

Government Scheme Awareness Week

Aim-

• Visit a slum area near you or find any unprivileged person e.g. rickshaw
puller, domestic maid, wage worker, etc).

• Know about their living condition , whether they are getting benefits of the
government schemes or not. If not ,then aware them about the government
schemes which could be beneficial for them.

• Help them to know how to get benefits of that scheme.

Procedure-

After understanding the task I decided to visit the daily wage labourers working
in our college campus for new sports complex as I was already aware about their
living conditions and decided to aware them about “Prime Minister Gram Ujala
Yojana” as at their residential site they still use primitive incandescent bulbs
which consume a substantial amount of electricity , very susceptible to get
damaged and also illuminates very little also acquainting them about various
labour laws and rights given to them by the constitution.

43
Fortunately , I was able to get in contact with three men of Lakhimpur Kheri
working and living in Lucknow with their wives and Children , and asked them
about work their condition , living facility and how much money they make
everyday working here(rupees 500).

Then I made them aware about the Ujala Yojana and my points included:-

➢ Launched by Govt. of India in 2015

➢ To provide affordable high quality LED bulbs to the rural areas at

affordable price.

➢ According to this all the eligible households under this scheme can get
three to four LED bulbs which cost around 80 to 90 rupees , for only 10
rupees.

➢ Using the LEDs would save electricity , have long lasting bulb life and also
it would be suitable for eyes.

➢ How to register themselves at www.ujala.gov.in under ministry of power through

Jan Seva Kendra at their village.

Also, made them acquainted about labour laws and rights guaranteed by the
constitution.

everybody who has access to the internet also has an account in

one of the many social media networks that exist. Non-profit

NGO social media marketing services in INDIA turns into the

need of the hour for nonprofit organizations that are always

overshooting their budgets , exhausting their resources and trying

to find new sponsors for a noble cause . For non-profit

organizations that thrive on donations , volunteers and selfless

51
supporters , social media marketing is the most cheapest and cost

effective marketing strategy .

Social media for NGOs offers a great chance to show their work

to the outside world and to get into connect with their supporters, their

beneficiaries and other people interested in their work. These profiles

do not have the same function as a website though, as they are – as the

name already suggests – much more social. It is important to use

this social and interactive side to engage with the audience and

make them a part of the work. Only in this way, social media

profiles have an extra benefit for NGOs.

52
Procedure- In order to complete the given task , I divided the work

into different stages.

Selecting Medium- I decided to promote the youtube channel of the

NGO as firstly it already had substantial amount of followers on

Instagram and Facebook , secondly NGOs don’t use youtube very

often and neither have a very laid-out channel too.

Defining Audience- In order to get subscribers , I approached my

friends and relatives who are interested in the field philanthropy ,

could appreciate the work and also can promote the channel.

Increasing NGO awareness- The people to whom link for subscription

was sent had queries about the NGO, therefore I had to explain to

them about the cause and also how it is helping me in doing

internship . After having few engaging talks they were glad to be part

of it and also shared the channel.

53
Tracking performance – I n any kind of marketing it is important to

measure how people feel about the product that is being introduced.

Therefore after getting few feedbacks , it was noticed that the youtube

channel of the NGO didn’t have much compelling content. Therefore,

as part of the project , few suggestions were given to Umeed, from

my part.

Photographic evidence of subscribers ad followers added are shown as

following.

Task 3(ii)

Aim- Raise fund for the organisation from various sources ( a minimum of rupees

1000 should be raised).

For any NGO it is necessary to have some money to promote their

motive . NGOs need funding to implement projects that would lead to

the development of the communities . Determination of these projects

as to what they should address and how they should be implemented

mostly depends upon case-to-case . But overall, these projects

conceptualized by different stakeholders need to be implemented and

these have arisen out of some need felt by the organization , donor

and the community.

The management of the project also requires funding because there will

be some human resources involved to give a direction to the project and

these human resources need to be sustained which can be done by

57
paying through the resources raised for the project . To manage these

human resources , there is also need for some money so that the

administration is institutionalized and professionalism is induced.

Growing competition in the civil society also requires tremendous

competency in presentation and management , which also consume

considerable resources . Moreover , publicity and documentation for

organizational advancements also need to be carried out. These areas

also have to be adequately funded for its future growth. There are also

various contingency needs of the community and it may expect the

NGO to fulfill even though if there is no real donor fund available

for it . This could also require some corpus of funds so that NGOs

can optimize them for various unexpected needs

58
Procedure- For this task I relied mainly on my friends , college mates and

cousins. Through my marketing campaign they were already aware about the NGO

and my internship . So, for my final task, I had put a Whatsapp status promoting

the cause of umeed and asked my contacts to do funding for the NGO. Through

that status , I conveyed my message that Umeed is an 80G* registered NGO and

the money provided by you will be utilized for helping disabilities, disaster struck

and slum children. Also , special emphasis on girl education and women education,

so that they and their families get benefits.

Many of my friends helped me to raise money, they did contribution in whatever

amount which was comfortable to them and I appreciate their help.

Note- 80G- Section 80G of the Income Tax Act provides a 50% exemption from paying tax

on donations made to funds or organizations qualifying under the act. This Section offers tax

deductions on donations made to certain funds or charitable organisations with a qualifying limit

not exceeding 10% of Adjusted Gross Total Income.

Task-4

Task 4 – Invite applications for internship at Umeed , shortlist and interview

them.

Procedure- Recruiting more volunteers who are willing to be part of the

organization is one of the most important task , but it must be taken care

that only serious and well informed candidates about the internship get to be

part of it. After getting the guidelines and little help from my HR. I

posted a ‘job posting’ on LinkedIn. The job notifications got 6 applicants after

sorting out there CVs and preparing my questionnaire I conducted there interviews

and was able to have conversations with highly qualified candidates and get this

kind of experience for the first time. The list of applicants and job notification

posting is provided below:-

❖ Key Findings

i) Only few poor labourers are aware about their basic rights and government

schemes.

ii)Online content needs to be more compelling as content was bit vague to

address the issue.

iii) Umeed’s motto was needed to promoted out-loud.

iv)Umeed needs to connect itself to more biggers organsations in the same

field, like, Smile Foundation, Nanhi Kali, Goonj etc.

v) Umeed needs to promote itself in all the social media platform equally as it

is much cheaper way to promote itself.

65
❖ Suggestions Given:-

i) Create compelling content- Visual attractiveness is important to

engage the audience. Creating glittering and vibrant videos with social

values , showing the work of volunteers and also using ‘youtube shorts’.

ii)Connecting to similar organisations- Major NGOs in India already

have substantial amount of volunteers who are willing to contribute in any

social works organisations.

iii) Getting the mission of organisation out loud- It is important to

show the cause of existence or the NGO at the very first glance of the

organization . If you use hashtags in a smart way, you can extend your

network beyond the people who already know you and your work and gain

new friends and supporters. If you can manage to get into the trending

66
images with your contributions , you will gain many new followers that

support your mission from outside your current circle.

iv)A blissful Logo- For some reason the logo which was all black and

white had little impact to the eyes. Therefore , it was suggested to have a

more colourful and vibrant logo.

v) Using YouTube as an opportunity- YouTube is one of the fastest

growing networks worldwide . Almost everybody uses YouTube to watch

funny videos, listen to music or to learn new things . YouTube videos are

an amazing way to give great insights into your project . With today’s

technology advances , every smartphone can produce videos with decent

quality and they are much more engaging than pictures and text only.

Videos can give voice to the beneficiaries and make your project much

more real for the viewers . One of the main goals when using social

media for NGOs. You can also use YouTube to disseminate your project

work . Maybe you are teaching a specific method or approach , and

videos could be a great tool to share this with other NGOs and

organizations. YouTube is also a platform where not many NGOs are

67
represented yet. If you have a great channel, this could be somewhere

where you can shine and be bright . You could also use YouTube to

connect with beneficiaries and volunteers – people love seeing themselves

in videos.

Apart from addressed points social media marketing can be used for

purposes such as:-

Exposure

Signing up for an account for your NGO gives you potential exposure too

many people who otherwise would never get to know about your project. We

have already talked about the importance of your website, but through a social

media profile , it is much easier to get exposure for your work. To find your

homepage , people already need to know about your organization or at least

search for it with very specific terms . Social media gives you more

chances to share your work throughout your network and then through the

68
network of your followers . Social media is a great way to get direct

feedback for your work. If you post a picture , people will comment on it.

If you post a link to your website , they will learn more about your project

and share their thoughts in the comments . It is an easy and great way to

find out if your project is creating a buzz or if no one is really interested

in your work . You can ask questions and create a direct connection to your

audience – something that is very important to deliver good work.

Direct Connection to your target audience

Sometimes it Is very difficult to get a direct connection to the people you

want to work with or the ones you want to inform about your project.

Social media is a great way to get direct feedback for your work. If you

post a picture , people will comment on it. If you post a link to your

website , they will learn more about your project and share their thoughts in

the comments . It is an easy and great way to find out if your project is

creating a buzz or if no one is really interested in your work. You can ask

questions and create a direct connection to your audience – something that

is very important to deliver good work.

69
Great tools – Messaging, Polls, and Feedback

Social media offers several tools that you can use to present your work or to ask

for funding. People can send you direct messages; you can prepare polls and have

the opportunity to receive direct feedback for your work.

If you use these tools, you can create a more direct connection to your audience

and include them more closely in your work. People who have already been

messaging with your organization are more likely to donate to your cause.

If you are not sure how to roll out a new program, you can use polls to collect

opinions and develop a strategy with the direct feedback of the people who might

already have experience in this field.

70
Share your work

Social media is a very easy way to share your work with your beneficiaries or

people who want to support you. Sometimes you only have a small update that

would otherwise not make it to your homepage – Facebook is the perfect medium

for this. You can share pictures and short videos of your work and your progress

and keep your supporters updated.

If you end up writing an article on your homepage about the progress of your

projects, you can link to this article and make sure that many people read it.

Sharing work in progress makes your followers feel closer to the project and in the

long run, makes them more likely to support it.

Share your events

Social Media has a great feature to plan and share events with your audience. If

you have a fundraiser, an informational event or the inauguration of your project –

you can plan and share this on it and make sure that everybody who needs to know

about it gets the information. You can even directly invite people via Facebook and

other platforms.

71
Connect with similar organizations

On social media, you can easily find other organizations that work in your field. If

geographically or thematically – you can find people who fight the same problems

and might want to partner up with you. Share your experiences and resources to

make the best use of them.

Network

Networking is very important in the world of fundraising. On social media, you

can not only connect with other NGOs that could be potential partners but also

with donors, professionals from your field and potential supporters. When you

follow donors on social media, you will get to know much better what they

actually want to fund and where their work leads them. Sometimes it can be a great

way to get into contact when you comment and share posts and connect this way.

Tagging partners and supporters make sure that you extend your network and let

people know about your work and your connections.

72
Posting pictures and videos

Social media gives you the possibility to easily post visual media – pictures and

videos. These cannot always be posted to a similar extent on the homepage. If

people have a real idea of your project, they are much more likely to support your

project. This is one of the great plus points of social media for NGOs. Pictures and

video are the perfect way to invite people to take a closer look and understand your

project. They are an important tool in storytelling and create an emotional

connection.

Share links about your project

On Social media, you can also share links in an easy and appealing way. If it is

articles from your own homepage or articles that have been written about your

organization or your projects, you can share them with your audience and let

everybody know what great work you are doing.

73
Social Media for Nonprofits – direct fundraising

You can also use social media for direct fundraising from your followers.

Recently, Facebook and Youtube has introduced a new feature to directly fundraise

through their page. But there are also other ways to increase fundraising with the

help of social media. You can post links to your fundraising or crowdfunding

campaign or just ask for direct donations in one of your updates.

74
❖ Limitations and challenges.

i) Pandemic- COVID-19 played a major hindrance while doing the

internship , during the first task of social work , the labourers were wary of

contacting strangers.

ii) Young NGO - Umeed is rather a very new NGO and many people are

still unaware about it.

iii) Getting donations - Even though I didn’t face much problems to get

donations , still explaining the concept of 80G was difficult to some extent.

iv) Limited learning scope - I found the task of getting subscribers to be

quite simple and expected more variety of tasks to get more learning

experience.

75
Conclusion

The assignment of project has been done to contribute my time and

efforts in the field of social work and give my honest diligence to

improve the organization.

Overall it has been a great learning experience. Umeed has provided

me an opportunity to work in the field of philanthropy also learn the

technicals of social media marketing, the organization allowed me to do

critical analysis of their structure and openly took my opinion.

Generating funds and understanding the structure of an organisation was

an important lesson to learn.
