I. Title: Multiplication of Fractions

II. Learning Competency: Shows that multiplying a Fraction by its Reciprocal is

Equal to 1.

(Code:M5NS-Ih-94, Q1-W7)

III. Instructions: This activity sheet focused on the Multiplication of

Fractions. Below are the activities with regard to this topic. Read

the directions of every activity and answer what is asked.

IV. Activities

LET’S EXPLORE!
To find the reciprocal of a fraction, flip it over, so that the numerator becomes

the denominator and the denominator becomes the numerator. That is:

The reciprocal of 4/5 is 5/4

Note that the product of a fraction and its reciprocal is always 1.

4
/5 x 5/4 = 20/20 = 1

Mathematics5Q1W7-2 Page 1
In the case of a whole number, think of it as having a denominator of 1:

The reciprocal of 5 is 1/5.

5
/1 x 1/5 = 5/5 = 1

Every number has a reciprocal except for 0. There is nothing you can multiply by 0 to

create a product of 1, so it has no reciprocal.

Activity 1

Direction: Find the reciprocals of the fractions and mixed numbers and write

them in the space provided.

Activity 2

Mathematics5Q1W7-2 Page 2
4. 5.
Direction: Fill in the missing number to complete the equations.

1. 2. 3.

Activity 3

Reciprocal Match

Direction: Cut out the reciprocals and glue them into the box next to the

correct fraction, whole number or mixed number.

V. Closure/What I have learned:

Two numbers are reciprocals of each other. One number is 36 times as large

as the other. What are the numbers?
