STRUCTURES: The comparison of adjectives

AIMS: Ss will practise sentence construction and apply their new


knowledge through creative writing.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson:

 Students will learn about the comparative and superlative forms of


long and short adjectives and appropriately use these forms in
conversation.
 Students   will   practise   creating   correct   comparative   and  
superlative   forms   of  adjectives  describing  different items  .  

ASSUMPTIONS: Ss won’t find it difficult to assimilate the comparison of


short and long adjective

ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS: Some Ss may have a low ability to


distinguish irregular adjectives.          

TEACHING AIDS: Textbook, worksheets, handouts, pictures


ACTIVITY 1

WARM UP

AIMS: to make the presence, to review the grammar material from the
previous lesson

TIMING:5 minutes

INTERACTION: T-S, S-T

PROCEDURE: T greets her Ss, checks homework.

T makes the presence and asks „Who’s missing today?”

ACTIVITY 2

SONG

AIMS: to familiarize Ss about the comparative and superlative degrees


of adjectives.  

TIMING: 10 minutes

INTERACTION: T-S, S-T, S-S

PROCEDURE: Ss receive a worksheet with the lyrics of the song”My


Love” by Petula Clark. They have to fill in the missing gaps withthe
comparative and superlative of the adjectives contained by the lyrics.
Then, Ss watch the video of the song and check their answers.
ACTIVITY 3

PRESENTATION

AIMS: to introduce Ss to the new structure and to point out the


irregular adjectives

TIMING:10 minutes

INTERACTION: T-S, S-T, S-S

PROCEDURE: The T writes some examples on the board and asks Ss


to look at the Grammar snapshot.T checks the rules with her Ss,
including spelling.

ACTIVITY 4

PRACTICE

AIMS: to help students accurately use the comparative and superlative


forms of adjectives
TIMING:10’

INTERACTION: T-S, S-T, S-S, group work

PROCEDURE: Ss solve ex. 7, page 72, comparing three types of cars,


using the comparative form of the adjectives.

ACTIVITY 5

AIMS: to use the comparative  and  superlative  forms  of  adjectives


and  
by   talking   about   three   different   items from the same category   and
comparing  them.  
TIMING:10’

INTERACTION: T-S, S-T, S-S, group work

PROCEDURE: in groups Ss have to compare three different objects


and each of them comes to the blackboard and writes his/her own
comparison

ACTIVITY 5

ASSIGNING HOMEWORK

AIMS: to consolidate and to practise the recently acquired information

TIMING:5’

INTERACTION: T-S, S-T, S-S, pair work, group work

PROCEDURE: T sets homework, ex 2,page 59 and ex NOW YOU and


explains her Ss what they have to do
