WORK INSTRUCTION

Flow Element Stage 1


A. Pre-Installation

PREREQUISITES

• Checklist IC-EI-065.

This is a general procedure applicable to orifice plates, restriction orifices, flow nozzles and other
inline primary flow elements. There is no stage 2 procedure requirement for these devices.

PROCEDURE
1. Unpack and inspect the flow element for damage.

2. Check that the flow element conforms to the data sheet; record all data if data sheet is not
available, advise the client’s representative. Refer to section 2 of Checklist IC-EI-065.

3. Check that the tag number, ID size and flow direction are clearly stamped on the O.P tang.
If not, stamp the required data on the tag. Do this in consultation with the client’s
representative.

4. Using a vernier gauge, measure the OD, ID and thickness and confirm that they compare
with the data sheet.

5. Using a straight edge, check the orifice plate for flatness.

6. Repack to await installation.

B. Installation Inspection

PREREQUISITES

• Pre-Installation checks completed.


• All pipeline pressure tests are complete.
• Checklist IC-EI-065

PROCEDURE
1. Check installation is correctly installed in regard to:

• Location.
• Gaskets.
• Flow direction.
• Flange / pipe tapping points.
• Isolation valves.
2. Record satisfactory installation on Checklist; checking off all applicable items.

3. Upon completion of the installation checks affix a site approved status label to tang or
orifice flange to indicate the current status.

4. Leave the isolation valves isolated.
