The Importance of Good Electrical Engineering in Designing your Building

When it comes to designing your building, good electrical engineering is

crucial.

An electrical engineer is responsible for numerous building functions such as

power, lighting, heating, cooling, ventilation and water amenities. ... Some
engineers also maintain the services even after the building is finished

A good electrical engineer plays a vital role in making sure that the project is
energy efficient and sustainable.

An engineer that is innovative will keep current with the new standards of
sustainable regulations and more rigorous standards. This ensures that the
construction is done right the first time. Having to redo projects is very
expensive.

Transmission Line
Design Methodology
• Gather preliminary line design data and available climatic data
• Select reliability level in terms of return period of design
• Calculate climatic loading on components
• Calculate loads related to safety during construction and
maintenance
• Select appropriate correction factors, if applicable, to the design
components
such as use factor, strength factors related to numbers of
components, quality control, and the characteristic strength.
• Design the components for the above loads and strength
Selection of Transmission Voltage
Standard Voltage: 66,110,132, 220, 400 KV
Tolerances - ±10% up to 220 KV & ±5% for 400 KV
Selection Criterion of Economic
Voltage• Quantum of power to be evacuated
• Length of line
• Voltage regulation
• Power loss in Transmission
• Initial and operating cost

Substation
A substation is a part of an electrical generation, transmission, and distribution system. Substations
transform voltage from high to low, or the reverse, or perform any of several other important functions

What is Phase in Electricity?
Generally, the phase in electricity is the current or the voltage among an existing wire as well as a neutral cable.

Phase means the distribution of load, if a single wire is used, an additional load will occur on it & if three wires are used
then loads will be separated between them.

This can be called as less power for 1-phase and more power for 3-phase.
If it is a 1-phase system, it includes two wires
A 3-phase system, then it includes 3 wires (or) four wires.
Single-phase Power
The definition of the single-phase power supply is, the power supplies through a single conductor

Electrical control panels

Electrical control panels are widely used in the industrial and commercial sector for
various applications and utilities, including commercial buildings, hospitals, dairies,
telecommunications, research laboratories, and others. There are primarily two types of
electrical panels available in the market – High Tension (HT) and Low Tension (LT) panels,
each one is designed for a specific arrangement and include devices to operate specific
equipment.

HT Panels are generally used to supply power to various electrical devices and distribution
boards. HT panels are installed both outdoor and indoor as well, while mostly used in
substations for controlling the electricity flow.

LT Panels are used with low tension cables to obtain power from the generator or
transformer and distribute electricity to various electrical devices and distribution
boards. LT panels are designed to function at lower voltages (up to 690 Volts) with low
insulation levels.

Ring Main Unit – RMU:
is a compact, enclosed and sealed type of Switchgear
used for medium voltage power distribution. It is a
complete Switchgear in itself. A complete Switchgear
means, assembly of required switching devices,
protection device as well as metering device. RMU of
different voltage (mostly 12 kV and 24 kV) and current
ratings are available. Indoor as well as outdoor types
of Ring Main Units are available.
