The Under cliff is an 11 Jon complexity of past and present movements of mass, both dormant

and active, that spans a zone about 1/2 km broad under a steep shoreline cliff or back scarp.  The
inquiry was carried out as an engineered geomorphic survey, which included a study of
accessible literature works as well as ground investigations of the land sliding and the various
elements that influence their site, character, and activities.

The geological of a “Cretaceous (Albian) Southern Downs outliers”, wherein the under
cliff's comprises the coastline outcropping, has received special study. The stratigraphic of the
Upper Green-sand, Gault, and other layers has been discovered, identifying critical new details
about a small plunge synclinal architecture as well as the stratigraphic of the Upper Greensand
Gault, and other layers. Based on minimal sediment logical data, one assessment of Quaternary
history of geology shows that minimum of two climatic regulated periods of substantial activities
happened as during Holocene. A hydro-geology and water reserves of the Downs of Southern
and Under cliff, as well as components of the coastline such as marine architecture, marine
activities, coastal eroding, and conservation, have all been examined.

A systematic geomorphic assessment of the landslides was conducted, identifying three main
kinds of slope shapes and activities that are utilized to subdivide the Undercliff into coast to
coast sections in varying configurations. Historic landslides behavior statistics are given, as well
as fresh data obtained through surveys and specific instruments. Recent destructive activity in
portions of Ventnor could be linked to a shoreline expansion of slope instabilities, which could
foreshadow a catastrophic landslide in the urban v - region in the future.
