3 FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF 3D MODEL

3.1 Static Analysis in Abaqus under Transverse load of 20KN

3.1.1 Stress Analysis

After 3D construction of model in Abaqus stress analysis was done at Max, Min, and mid

3.1.2 Strain Analysis
After 3D modeling analysis on Abaqus Maximum, Minimum and Mid Principle Strains
are calculated using Abaqus. The values for Maximum Strain is 2.805e-6, Minimum
Strain is 5.049e-7 and for Mid Strain is -2.036e-8.

4 CONSTRUCTION OF EQUIVALENT 2D MODEL
For the formation of 2D equivalent beam model following calculations were made,

F=0.0053 ×10

F=0.053 KN

5 FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF 2D EQUIVALENT MODEL

5.1 Static Analysis of 2D model with transverse load

5.1.1 Stress analysis

maximum stress is 5.872e3, minimum stress is 0.00e0 and mid stress is 2.378e2.

5.1.2 Strain Analysis in Abaqus
After performing analysis it was observed that Maximum principle strain was 3.413e-7,
Minimum Principle strain was -8.421e-09 and mid principle strain was 7.873e-9

5.2 2D Buckling Analysis

Now buckling analysis was carried out on 2D model and deflection due to buckling was
determined and it was shown that that deflection was 1.003.

5.3 Modal Analysis of 2D model

Modal analysis of 2D model was determined and it was observed that maximum
frequency was 2.013e-1 at, 59.681 cycles/sec.

6 Comparison of 3D and 2D model

Due to comparable model building, stresses, strains, displacements, buckling, and modal
values of both differ in a certain range after analysis. Also when you exert pressure to a
2D model, for instance, you apply it to the thicknesses you set in the sections assignment,
however when you exert pressure to a 3D model, you apply it to the true face of the
model.

In terms of effectiveness, the 3D model provides better illustrations and forces, and all
constant values of fiber and matrix are solved as two different materials, whereas the 2D
model does not, as equivalent values are used instead of two different values due to
property differences, as shown in the above analysis. The most significant disadvantage
of a 2D model is that it lacks a third dimension.

In terms of calculation, a 2D model is undoubtedly quicker and meshes into less

components and nodes than a 3D model, which computes slowly and takes a long time to
solve.

7 FUTURE WORK
After analyzing the model it was determined that buckling phenomenon is the most
common cause of a composite beam failure so in future to avoid buckling such material
should be used in matrix fibre composition that buckling would not occur.
