How I would present this material:

I would present this material to my community council and PTA. I would present it so they could
understand how budgets are made, why they are useful, and how they have a large role in
creating and carrying out a budget. During the presentation I would involve a great deal of group
discussion and give opportunities for individuals to share thoughts, or experiences with the
school and its budgeting. During the presentation I would also show materials from many of the
programs that have been implemented in the past to get their minds thinking of the possibilities
with the programs they may want to budget for in the future.

V. B. 4 Understands how to evaluate This assignment shows how I am aware of the process
educational programs to ensure that that takes place to evaluate programs within the school
all instructional and student support and how it needs to continually happen to ensure
needs are met. student learning. When giving this presentation in
person I would explain that this process needs to be
ongoing because needs and student supports need to be
evaluated continually since they are always changing.

Student Selected Topic:

II.A.2 Understand, value, and employ the The original intention of this standard probably refers
community's resources to promote to the data that can be collected in regards to teaching
student learning and school practices and how those can be effective, but it still
improvement. applies here as this data can be used to help determine
what programs and materials are effective and provide
growth for students. Not only this but data can also be
gathered through community council members and
parents that are willing to participate so that teachers
can have feedback about what is working and where
the funding needs to be given within the budget for
success with the students.

1. Describe the impact on student learning (2-3 paragraphs, double spaced):

Having community support with budgeting and financial planning benefits student

learning in many ways. It allows for students to have the physical people they need in a school

building to get the education, and it also allows for them to have access to supplies and resources

that are necessary in order to do what they physical people are asking of them.

When budgeting is not carried out in the correct way, students suffer in their learning.

There are many different places where this process can fall apart, but the end result will

ultimately be student learning that has a delay and that is exactly opposite of what we want when

we are trying to make progress toward something in education. I believe that including the

community, by giving a presentation like the one that I have created for this project, it will allow

for true student learning to happen because we can get the big picture. We do not see every

aspect of the children, and neither do their families. That is why we have to work together to

have the best outcome possible.

2. Discuss leadership/management skills needed when working in this area (1-2 paragraphs,
double spaced):

I believe that the biggest leadership skill that is needed in this area is the confidence of

presentation and willingness to hold firm while being understanding. This can be challenging

because when you are trying to budget, there are so many things that have to be kept in mind.

While it is important to get input from all sides and make sure that the students are being

represented in the best way possible, it is also important to make sure you follow policies and

procedures. Those can be hard for others, especially members of the community to understand
and make sense of. That is where the leadership skills come in and it is so key to have confidence

when dealing with some of those more difficult conversations so that you can all reach the best

outcome.

3. Personal Reflection - Describe your learning experience. Include new learning, revelations,
feelings and insights (3-4 paragraphs, double spaced):

I feel that through the process of this project, I have learned many things about

budgeting and also about community involvement with it. I had the opportunity to interview my

principal in order to complete this project. I also had the chance to interview her back when we

had a previous chapter that discussed the role of administration in the budgeting process. At that

time, it was more basic, but she did give me an overview of what would be expected in the

future. For this project she went more in depth and I think that I have a clearer picture about why

certain things are so important and why it is critical to include others in the process for the best

outcomes.

When it comes to the process of budgeting as a whole, I feel that I really came to better

understand where the money starts and what has to happen for that to be turned into something

that can benefit student learning. This comes in the way of people and resources or materials. It

was nice to have that distinction and breakdown. I think that it is critical to see where it starts

because then you can have a better appreciation for what it is being used for.

I feel that I also gained an understanding of the importance that the community and

families can provide. Like I discussed in earlier questions, there are things that both families and

educators can bring to the table with what will benefit student learning. We all have to be

considered if we want our ultimate goals with academic success to be a reality.

4. Discuss how the opportunity for the success of diverse student populations can be increased in
regard to this assignment. Provide examples. (2 paragraphs double spaced.)
Having a better understanding of where funding comes from in regards to different

budgets, can help you see how there are different opportunities for students in diverse

populations. With different funding, the way that the education in that specific building is

approached is dependent on the type of budget that is set up. Like has been discussed many

times, the budget should be made with a team, and then obviously finalized by the administrator

who has all of the information to make choices that they feel can be best for the school. This can

be beneficial to have the big picture and make the choices after the input has been provided from

the people who live in all kinds of the populations that might be seen.
