Today we are going to be looking at more complex SolidWorks Features

Class Intentions

Students will be asked to:

• Develop a better understanding of more complex


SolidWorks features to allow them to make digital
objects on SolidWorks.
• Learn new features such as Revolve Boss Base, Shell and
constant fillet.
• Students will be able to apply all these new features to a
Digital model of a drinking cup.

Success Criteria:

At the end of the class, students will


understand how to…

• Convert 2D sketches to 3D objects


• Understand more complex features in
SolidWorks and where to apply them
• Be able to add accurate dimensions to
objects to give them the correct size and
proportions.
• Apply revolve boss base features.
• Apply shell features
• Apply constant fillet features.

Drinking Beaker
Revolve
Boss Base
• You must have a line that you want
to revolve and an axis you wish to
revolve the line around in order to
make a Revolve Boss Base
Shell Feature
• You must have a Solid Body to Apply a
shell feature. You must select the face in
which you wish to apply the shell and then
input a suitable size you wish to leave as
the wall of the beaker. In this case we are
leaving a 4mm size wall.
Adding a Constant Fillet
When adding a constant fillet you must select the fillet feature. Next you must
select the constant fillet feature under the fillet heading. Next you must select
the starting wall for the fillet, then the wall you want to add the fillet on and
then finally you must select where you want the fillet to end. After this select
the green tick and then it will add your constant fillet which can be seen in the
image below.
Now its your turn to make your beaker. Chose the feature you want to use to
complete the main body of the drinking beaker. Apply your own dimensions
PLEASE CLOSE DOWN ALL TAKE ANY DRAWING PAPER
COMPUTERS YOU USED WITH YOU.
