RA-2 COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT CuetwynD | pan March 29,2022 COUNCIL MEETING DATE: | April, 2022 DEPARTMENT: | Parks SUBJECT: Feather & Pride Walkways PURPOSE: To add feather and Pride walkways onto crosswalks in 2022 in accordance with Coun ‘SUMMARY/BACKGROUN. ‘On October, 2021 Don Titus Montessori School reached out to the District regarding crosswalks in Chetwynd with a social media program that was done in other areas featuring orange feather crosswalks. The rationale is to keep Reconciliation at the forefront of our minds daily and encourage education regarding Residential Schools. it's previous direction ‘As authorized by Council, Administration reached out to local sign suppliers to create a stencil (feather) that can be used to paint the orange onto the designated crosswalks. ‘The design presented is recommended to ensure we are also following transportation guidelines for pedestrian crossings. Other agencies that have been consulted for feedback in regards to the walkway program include Tansi Friendship Centre, Schoo! District 59 Board of Education and Indigenous Advisory Council. The attached concept drawings (Attachment ‘A’) show the design and location of the proposed seven crosswalk sites. ‘The attached concept drawings (Attachment 'B’) show the design and location of the proposed Pride crosswalk to be included in the 2022 crosswalk program. STRATEGIC PLAN Objective 1. The Relationship Goal Statement reads “Employ Policy, principals and values that support diversity and inclusion” FINANCIAL IMPLICATION(S) COOP Dawson Creek donated paint for the Pride walkway, as well as orange for the feathers. The feathers and Pride walkways will be installed when the walkways are repainted during the summer.RECOMMENDATION(S): THAT Council receive the report for information; or Page? ‘Aprils, 2022 THAT Council authorize the feather walkway locations as presented; and THAT Council authorize the Pride walkway location as presented.
