Genetically Modified Organisms

Before the expansion of the 4.0 industry, scientists thought that were they able to manipulate the

genetic structure of plants and animals, they would manage to produce the healthiest organisms

that improve everybody's life. As a result, their dreams have become true and GMO products,

organisms in which their DNA has been altered in the way that mating does not appear, have

been created successfully. Although GMO food is believed to have the benefit of destroying

transmissible illness in the future as well as improving humans health, those products are having

some issues after being used widely including the allergenicity and the widespread of genes. Due

to their potential dangers, GM food must be tightly safeguarded and kept carefully before it is

sold at the market. However, as governments haven’t realized how allergic they anger are and

how danger their widespread is, they continue to spread millions of those hazardous products.

The first concern about GMOs is that they provoke an allergic reaction. Chemical substances that

are put in these technological products are vulnerable to allergy. The two forms of chemical

allergy of greatest relevance for occupational toxicology are skin sensitization resulting in

allergic contact dermatitis and sensitization of the respiratory tract associated with occupational

rhinitis and asthma. Moreover, the gene transfer from commonly allergenic organisms to non-

allergic is potentially dangerous. For example, a normal apple that is invulnerable to allergy has

been confirmed to be highly-allergic after its genes were altered. This seems to be particularly

threatening because when shopping, people could buy an altered product without recognition.

Secondly, the transferred genes may escape from one to another or into the wildlife. For

example, A scientist manipulates an apple by adding a gene that would redouble its sweetness.

Through some experiments, he thinks that is beneficial; therefore, he programs the code so that it
can enter other apples and infect the entire species. If the alteration was good, people will satisfy

it. On the contrary, if the alteration happens in the opposite ways in all varieties, it may have

unintended results. On the other hand, there is a concern when GMOs once exhausted into nature

and scientists were no longer control them. They would spread out all over the country in which

they were not aimed to be. For instance, research says that Mexico, a country in the southern

portion of North America, has found proof of the modified gene in GM corn spreading to the

maize crops. Hence, they banned the planting of GM corn to protect the traditional maize.

Overall, GMO products are made to be less susceptible to insects, better taste, and being cheaper

than before, for example. This attitude is potentially dangerous and must be studied carefully

because it puts profit first and consumers last. Therefore, agribusiness must stop selling them as

well as agriculture stops producing them until it is safe.

Should renewable energy replace non-renewable energy?

Since humans first began to discover fossil fuels including coal, oil, and natural gases for

generating electricity for life necessities, they have become the major sources of energy in

various regions on Earth. Due to their availability in plenty and economical prices, people have

put too much reliance on those resources without recognizing the severe damages that non-

renewable energy sources have caused to the environment. The massive production of

greenhouse gases, which result from burning fossil fuels, is the main driver behind climate

change and other disastrous ecological issues. As a result, governments and conservational

organizations are taking a step forward and using an alternative source of energy, also known as

renewable energy. Owing to its eco-friendliness and renewability, these substitute energy

resources are believed to outweigh such benefits fossil fuels bring.

First and foremost, one of the main advantages of renewable energy is that the

environmental advantages it brings are far greater than the use of carbon-intensive sources.

Greenhouse gases, mostly driven by burning fossil fuels, contribute to harmful impacts on the

environment such as climate change, more frequent catastrophes, rising sea levels, and worse,

extinction (WHO, 2018). However, scientists have proven that little or no waste products are

produced by inexhaustible energy, such as carbon dioxide and other additives. With alternative

energy sources, electricity is typically produced in a manner without pollution formation

(RESET, 2020). David Chandler, an MIT expert on chemistry, claims that light energy from the

sun can be effectively transformed into electricity using means of photo-voltaic devices without

generating any hazardous substances. Similarly, as wind power depends on air movement to

generate electricity, no sign of environmental pollution seems to occur. Thankfully to its

environmental-friendliness, carbon-free energy is claimed to have a dramatic effect on reducing

carbon emissions. Based on research from The US Department of Energy’s National Renewable
Energy Laboratory, they concluded that these unlimited energy sources could alleviate the global

warming gases of the country by 81 percent.

Secondly, another upside of renewable energy is its renewability, which makes it a

reliable source of energy while fossil fuels have time limitations. Compared to the formation of

coal and other finite resources, which takes millennia to form, the ecological footprint people

produce is at an alarming rate. According to a study, the depletion of all fossil fuels is estimated

to result in 2090 if the consumption rate stays constant. In contrast, renewable energy is naturally

regenerated and a by-product of natural processes, meaning that it will remain infinite on an

anthropological timescale. Hence, people would feel secure by having an abundant energy

supply to last the Earth for decades and ever, with the sustained production of renewable sources.

An environmentalist Khemani states: “As long as human life is there, there will be earth, sun,

wind, and water, and the energy from these sources will also be available as long as they are

there”. With the profusion from various renewable resources and the development of science and

technology, he strongly believes that they will fulfill the world’s energy demand for today and

tomorrow.

In conclusion, it is believed that the use of alternative energy is a noticeably positive

development in tackling climate change and a lack of finite resources. As mentioned above,

alternative sources of energy are proven to pose no threat to the environment as well as to be

inexhaustible. With such effective advantages, it should be a global priority to invest in such

research and development.
