Davis, V. (2020, August 24). How to Create a Safe and Uplifting Classroom Environment this
Fall with Joseph Hamer
https://10minuteteacher.libsyn.com/how-to-create-a-safe-and-uplifting-classroom-environ
ment-this-fall-with-joseph-hamer
Speaking from personal experience with anxiety I find this podcast to be super beneficial
for teachers when considering how anxiety affects their students. Especially during the
turmoil of the covid pandemic, anxiety rates are spiking especially within the school
walls. I liked how Joseph Hamer focused on creating a calm and safe classroom
environment. I also found how the breathing exercises are beneficial to the students as it
gives them a way to calm down and ground themselves.

Eakins, L. S. (2022). A School Community that Values Everyone’s Culture.

https://www.leadingequitycenter.com/208
I find this super important because this podcast focuses on the importance of
interconnectedness of cultural and social learning within the classroom. Teachers need to
model equality and cultural awareness so that students are able to see and practice those
skills. Students are humans and teachers must attain their personal needs before pushing
for more academic success. I find all the podcasts that I have chosen all interrelate to one
another as it always comes down to establishing relationships and building trust.

Edutopia. (2019, January 14). The Power of Relationships in Schools. [Video]. Youtube.
https://youtu.be/kzvm1m8zq5g
In this video, it explains the importance of building relationships with your students and
that means more than just being nice to them. Building relationships helps students
establish a good relationship with school. This video also digs into the science of how
building relationships with your students reflects on their overall growth. By doing this,
this allows the students to establish connections with their teachers and strive within their
academics. Developing a sense of a support system for your students will only help them
thrive in your classroom.

Friesen, L. (2021, November). The Phases of First-Year Teaching. Beginning Teacher Talk.

This podcast examines the difficulties that first year teachers may face and I found it
extremely beneficial because the host goes into detail on how many first year teachers
feel.

Fuhrman, R. (2022, January 27). 7 Attention-Getters to Use Instead of Raising Your Voice.
https://www.edutopia.org/article/7-attention-getters-use-instead-raising-your-voice
I found this to be an excellent and beneficial read. This article examines seven different
ways to gather your students' attention rather than yelling. From my own experience as a
student when a teacher would raise their voice or yell, you could feel the level of anxiety
raise. Through these seven different methods teachers can gather the attention of their
students without disturbing the calm environment. I particularly like the “Give me Five”
example because it takes students to observe their surrounding to understand what is
going on.

Hasson, J. (2019, January). The Teachers We Remember.

https://www.ted.com/talks/julie_hasson_the_teachers_we_remember
This ted talk examines how students do remember the impact and connections that the
teacher establishes. Though teachers may not remember years later, students do
remember how they were treated. Teachers leave large impacts on their students and
though it may be negative or positive, it will stick with the student. Students do not
remember being taught but rather the teachers that help them grow and flourish. I find
this ted talk super beneficial for teachers to understand the importance of leaving a
positive impact on their students.

Lepre, K. (2020, January 20). How to create a self-running classroom using a classroom
economy. Teachers Need Teachers.
https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/how-to-create-a-self-running-classroom-using/id13
93165127?i=1000463122780
I feel this is a super important podcast that can be beneficial to new teachers for building
classroom culture. Building that classroom culture and establishing relationships with
your students encourages them to engage in the material being presented. Her surprise
guest Thom Gibson explains how he created a classroom economy to help teach his
students the responsibilities with money. I think this is a super neat way of having
students engage with the material and use real life examples to excel their learning. I find
this strategy can be adjusted to fit each classroom or how ever the teacher sees fit.

Spencer, J. (2022, January 31). Empowering Students to Self-Select the Scaffolds. The Creative
Classroom.
https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/empowering-students-to-self-select-the-scaffolds/i
d1141442116?i=1000549596226
John Spencer explains how when the classroom environment is more student centered
students become more empowering in their education and become stronger/self applied
learners. Taking the time to build personalized plans with the guidance of the student that
needs extra help and with the support of their parent and/or guardian. This podcast could
be beneficial to teachers when planning lectures and structuring their classroom. All
educators need to keep in mind that not every student learns the same way, some may
need little to no assistance while others may need additional support in order to succeed.

Starr, J. (2019, August 15). Back to School: How to Avoid Educational Trauma with Colleen
Wilkinson. Teaching with Jillian Starr Podcast.
https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/back-to-school-how-to-avoid-educational-trauma-
with/id1457483597?i=1000446958427
Every student has some sort of trauma in their life which impacts their overall
development which reflects on their educational journey. Having a trauma informed lens
will help give insight into what the student may need in order to succeed. This podcast
correlates with the other podcast above because they both demonstrate that when creating
an individualized plan for the student based on their struggles and what works best for
their learning while creating a safe classroom environment the student will grow and be
more confident in their learning. Teachers need to be extremely observant of their
students who may be experiencing some sort of trauma because if the right supports are
not put in place it may have detrimental effects on the students relationship with learning.

This article gives great examples on how to start off the school day with positive and
encouraging conversations. This could be beneficial to any teacher as they can pick
which strategy best fits them and their classroom. In my first observation, my mentor
teacher would gather the students together and let each one explain what they did over
the weekend. I found by doing this it gave students the time to express what they wanted
to their peers and allowed class time to move more efficiently.
