Women Empowerment Against the World Full of Misogynists

The month of March is already coming to a near end and before welcoming the
month of April, it’s important to take a glance back at how most of women took this month to
heart and mind. We take the month of March as the month for women and honoring women;
however, do all women already get the freedom and empowerment that they need against this
male-dominated society? Countless of people may say that women have become more
powerful throughout the years but the stigmatism is still there. The stigma against women
will not be eradicated if they will stoop down to a level that they do not deserve. That’s when
women empowerment comes to play.

Women empowerment, as defined by the Worldvision.com, refers to the promotion of

women’s sense of self-worth, their ability to determine their own choices, and their right to
influence social changes for themselves and others. Its main purpose is to help women in
knowing their worth and giving them the most stable support system that they need.

One historical event that ignited the unity amongst women was the First International
Women’s Day on the 8th of March 1911; wherein more than one million people in Austria,
Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland are fighting for women's suffrage and labor rights. This
opened to many more movements and opportunities for females in our society.

Relating this to the modern era wherein as a student, women are often perceived
as less intelligent than men in a lot of ways may it be from politics, and in the other fields of
work. These stereotypes that have not been addressed properly and it seriously needs to
discontinue.

Women in different sectors such as in politics, law, and engineering are only very
few in numbers. Many are also being discriminated in their workplace and they tend to have
lesser salaries than men. It is also known that men tend to be hired much sooner than women.
Nonetheless, some women excelled all the way and an example of these women is the female
CEO behind the Brilliant Skin Essentials who is Miss Glenda Victorio. This female CEO
started from just selling online some different products such as slippers and candles. She tried
everything she can in order to make ends meet and in order to financially support her first
born. This gives us the heads-ups that women can also be the breadwinners of their own
family. This also gives us the idea that being a CEO and being successful is not up to a
person’s gender; it is up to his/her dedication and confidence to push through all challenges
that comes in the way of success.

Let’s not forget that in this time of pandemic, women make up almost 70% of the
health care workforce and this means that they are more exposed to the deadly environment
than others. We should give them more attention and respect for their sacrifices. This shows
us that women’s worth are more than what they are treated today.
To all the female SSCians, please do not let those stereotypes and stigmas stop you
from achieving your dreams and goals even if they say it’s meant for men alone. The goal
here is to have a future wherein we can’t be labelled as weak and fragile. Build your own self
confidence by not minding about what the outsiders might say. Women should build a
fortress as a shield against this world full of judgments and stereotypes. Let us build a
community wherein women would feel safe and empowered. No need to hide in the shadows
anymore; let’s fight for a women empowered community!
