1. The 4 production process types are –
 Job shop or Unit production – This is a common production
process that is usually of a small scale in nature. It also deals with
a high variety of goods or services. This type of process is highly
flexible in nature as it can deal with any type of requirement made
by the customer. A lot of skill and manpower are needed to
complete this type of process. Customer management and service
are required in this process. EXAMPLE – The manufacturing of
Rolls Royce’s car follows this type of process as it requires a lot of
skills to complete one car. Many customers require
customizations as well.
 Batch production - This type of process is used in industries where
there is a large variety of products with different demands. In this
process, there is a mid-volume requirement and a variety of
goods/services. In batch production, there is some level of
flexibility present as if 1 product fails the manufacturer can focus
on the other products. Example – LG has many different products
which their company produces. They have various varieties of
appliances thus they use Batch production to maximize efficiency.
 Repetitive or Mass production -This type of process focuses on
high volumes of standardized goods/services. There is only a little
flexibility available as it is difficult to make changes. In this
process, there are multiple assembly lines doing one specialized
work. The whole point is so that they are more efficient and
productive. All the products are standardized and are the same
with little to no difference. Example – Ford Motors follows this to
make their cars, this has led to producing more cars at a lower
cost and faster, as a result, their cars are all same.
 Continuous Production – This has very high volumes of goods
involved and most of the work is done by machines. In this
process once the process starts it cannot be stopped, all that is
needed to continually add raw materials, and the final product is
given out. For example – Brewing Industry uses continuous
production as brewing takes a lot of time and process to reach the
end product. So continuous the various process keep happening
from adding raw materials like malt, then fermenting, then
preserving and then finally the end product beer.

3. Mcdonald’s uses a behavioral approach to design the jobs at their

Restaraunt. The behavioral approach emphasizes the satisfaction of wants and
needs. Mcdonald’s uses this because they need to keep the employees
motivated and engaged in the job. They use various methods like job rotation,
enrichment, and enlargement to keep the workers engaged and a sense of
worth. Mcdonald’s is aware of the need for motivated workers in the
workplace. The behavioral approach puts importance on trust, socialization,
self-actualization, status, and a sense of purpose and accomplishment.
Mcdonald’s also uses a basis of approaches such as Total Quality Management
to ensure that the work is performed efficiently, cost-effectively, and
productively. This approach also reminds the managers of the complexity of
human beings. As result, the workplace becomes more engaging and a better
environment overall.

4. Some of the main factors that might be used for locating each of the
following facilities are
a) chemical factory – since these can potentially affect the people around them
zoning restrictions have to be checked so that the laws are not broken, site size
whether the location can handle room for expansion in the future, and utility
and sewer capacity to safely eliminate the wastage, availability of skilled
workers so that site runs smoothly.
b) fire station – demographics so that the most people can be reached in case
of emergencies, whether they are able to access to people easily, liveability so
that the firefighter can inhabit comfortably in the location because firefighters
stay in fire stations so they can act quickly in cases of emergencies. Whether
the fire station satisfies the economic’s aspect.
c) motel – Since motel is a service industry they have to consider the
population size, customer accessibility, market size, and traffic volume before
choosing a location to open their motel.
