A pulmonologist is about to give a presentation to a community about the impacts of tobacco

agriculture and production to the farmers and producers. He plans to inform them those tobacco
farmers and makers, although they are nonsmokers, have an increased risk of lung cancer and other
respiratory illnesses due to their exposure to tobacco leaves.

As he gathers information about his audience, he discovers that 40 percent of his future listeners rely on
tobacco farming and manufacturing for their main source of income. What should he do? Justify your
answer.

A. Drop the information about the impact of tobacco to their health to avoid offending the
listeners.
Tobacco use increases the risk of heart disease, including stroke, heart attack, aneurysm, lung
cancer, and other respiratory illnesses that can harm our health. Smoking is also linked to
significant health issues, including rheumatoid arthritis, inflammation, and decreased immune
function. There are so many ways to get this kind of illness or disease. First, if you are a heavy
user of this, I am sure you were able to feel that kind of illness. Second, even if you are not a
smoker, if you are exposed to tobacco leaves or can smell the smoke of someone who used this,
you have a chance of adapting to that kind of illness. But I'm not only saying that what farmers
do to sell tobacco isn't terrible; I realize that they have to do work and take responsibility since
that's their source of income. I am addressing this information to all those who may benefit
from this sort of knowledge since, first and foremost, they can suffer from a variety of ailments
and will ultimately suffer from them. Moreover, using tobacco is not just bad because if you use
it appropriately or in good ways, you have the freedom to use that, but you cannot use it for
recreational. As I said, you are able can suffer at any time of illness.

B. Mention the issue but downplay it and recommend that listeners do research and decide for
themselves.
Harmful effects of tobacco on us; according to my opinion and my research, everyday smoking
kills over 1,300 people and is the substantial cause of avoidable death and disease in the
country. Tobacco use has far-reaching health consequences, ranging from heart and lung issues
to more than a dozen types of cancer. Furthermore, tobacco has an impact on the environment,
the economy, and the health of nonsmokers through secondhand smoke, so I advise all listeners
or audience to decide and think carefully because the effect on our health is not good,
particularly for all farmers who are the suppliers of these things. I strongly suggested that
instead of tobacco, why not grow herbs or good foods like vegetables or fruits that may benefit
everyone's immune system and health because our globe currently suffers from any category of
illness and disease, and so many people suffer from it. Younger is most that use tobacco because
even children know how to use it, and I prove that because there are many stores here with us. I
saw many teens aged 15 years old; above are buying cigarettes, and I'm worried for them
because the cause of that is serious. They can get sick at any time by using tobacco, so I believe
that it is not too late to control it and save us from the dangers, exceptionally to save our
environment.

C. Keep the information and emphasize studies about the harm caused by exposure to tobacco
leaves and recommend a solution for the problem.

In my opinion, I recommend a solution to the problem is, first, is establishing regulations that
restrict the use of cigarettes because everyone understands how hazardous it is to us, especially
those who are young enough to use them. And second, if we are unable to cease making and
selling tobacco, we must provide reminders on how to use it in constructive rather than
relational ways because if we do not, people will continue to use it until they become
accustomed to it. Third, all small businesses that sell any type of tobacco cigarette will be
inspected to ensure that no cigarette is sold to minors under the age of 18, and we will also send
to prison all sellers who violate the laws, as well as the person who purchases a cigarette while
under the legal age, he will be arrested and taken to the DSWD for consultation. Finally, the
government should take action first since tiny organizations or political parties would listen to
them and urge all barangays to have a seminar about the dangers of tobacco to our health and
the environment.
