 INTRODUCCIÓN
El presente cuadernillo ha sido diseñado para apoyar el desarrollo de los aprendizajes
esperados de la asignatura de inglés II, lo anterior con el propósito de poder
proporcionar herramientas que faciliten de alguna manera el acceso al conocimiento
en este momento en el que estamos atravesando un cambio en la enseñanza-
aprendizaje.

Las temáticas abordadas en el presente material de trabajo, están basadas en los

aprendizajes esperados de la asignatura, incluyen ejercicios prácticos que se dividen
en tres parciales, al final de cada parcial hay un ejercicio de autoevaluación para poder
saber si es necesario reforzar aprendizajes.

Esperamos que la información vertida en este cuadernillo sea aprovechada al máximo

por las y los estudiantes que seguramente contarán con la guía puntual y precisa de
sus docentes en esta asignatura, tomando en cuenta que el aprendizaje de la lengua
inglesa es fundamental en un mundo globalizado.

 COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES
En este tema aprenderás el uso de los adjetivos comparativos, los usarás para
comparar diferencias entre dos elementos. Por ejemplo: más grande, más rápido,
más alto; y se utilizan en oraciones donde se comparan dos sustantivos.
Ejemplo:

Juan is older than Renata. – Juan es más grande que Renata.

USO DE LA PALABRA THAN PARA INDICAR COMPARATIVO

Y como podrás notar, necesitarás utilizar una palabra en inglés que es than y que se
traduce como: que.

Ahora exploraremos como se forma el comparativo con base en el tamaño de las

sílabas:

ADJETIVOS DE UNA SÍLABA

For one-syllable adjectives, we add ‘-er’ to the end to make the comparative form
(e.g. old – older, hard – harder).
VOCALES CORTAS

With short vowels, we double the final consonant before adding the ‘-er’

(e.g. big – bigger, hot – hotter).

ADJETIVOS QUE TERMINAN EN Y/I

With adjectives ending in ‘-y’, we add an ‘i’ before the ‘-er’

(e.g. dry – drier, happy – happier).

 ADJETIVOS CON DOS O MÁS SÍLABAS

For two-syllable (or longer) adjectives, we keep the adjective the same but
add ‘more’ in front

(e.g. intelligent – more intelligent).

ADJETIVOS IRREGULARES

There are also some irregular forms that don’t follow these rules. You will
have to learn these separately! For example, the comparative form
of far is further, the comparative form of bad is worse and of good is better.

vendedor.

Shop assistant: Can I help you?

Customer: Yes, do you have this T-shirt in other colours?
Shop assistant: We have it in white, black, red and purple. What size do you want?
Customer: Medium.
Shop assistant: OK, in medium we have black and red.
Customer: And in purple?
Shop assistant: No, just black and red. But I have other T-shirt in purple, it is a
different model and it’s cheaper.
Customer: OK, let me see. It is prettier than the one I wanted, but the fabric is not very
soft.
Shop assistant: But if you take it, you save 100 pesos.
Customer: Ok, I’ll try it on.
Shop assistant: The changing rooms are over there.

(pause)

Shop assistant: Is it okay?

Customer: No. I don’t feel very comfortable in it. The first T-shirt is more expensive
but the fabric is better. So I will buy it.
Shop assistant: Okay, that’s 540 pesos.
Customer: I will pay with cash, here it is.
Shop assistant: Ok, here’s your receipt.
Customer: Thanks, bye
Shop assistant: Have a good day!

 COUNT AND UNCOUNT NOUNS

There are countable nouns, these can be singular or plural. (Hay sustantivos contables
que pueden ser singulares y plurales)
Example:

A book Two books An egg Two egss

There are uncountable nouns (Hay sustantivos no contables)

Bread Rice

Some nouns are both. (Algunos sustantivos son contables e incontables)

We’d like three ice-creams, please! Do you like ice cream?
