ACC117 Quiz Assignment: Comparative Economic Development

1.  In your opinion, what is the extent of development of your own locality?  Specify your
locality and defend your answer.

My locality, Ubay, is considered as a First Class municipality having a total

population of 73,712 based from the 2021 findings of the Cities and Municipalities
Competitive Index (CMCI). Its revenue totalled 25,859,032,196 which is an outstanding
amount compared to other municipalities in Bohol only to reach billions having 48.3% in
the LGU Score Percentage. I can say that the extent of development in my locality is high
as businesses thrive and is in a strategic economic location due to its ports thus
providing jobs to people reducing poverty, inequality and unemployment.

2.  Which of the measurements of development do you find logical and acceptable?
Explain briefly.

I find Amartya Sen’s Capabilities Approach as a logical and acceptable measure of

development because of its holistic perspective to it that development isn’t only limited
to economic status. Logical wherein real freedom gives them the capability to achieve
whatever they yearn for, not only on commodities but their overall well-being resulting
to happiness and fulfilment. This is acceptable because relying on economic figures,
levels of poverty, unemployment, and inequalities alone is insufficient in determining
development as there are also other areas of it that needs to be taken into consideration.
