Learning Episode 9: Preparing for Teaching and

Learning
Name: Mark Gerald P. Lagran
Year and Course: BSEd – Social Studies IV

Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of this Learning Episode, I must be able to:

 Identify the teaching-learning practices that apply or violate the principles of teaching-learning;
 determine the guiding principles on lesson objectives/learning outcomes applied in instruction;
 judge if lesson objectives/intended learning outcomes are SMART;
 determine whether or not the intended learning outcomes are achieved at the end of the lesson;
 differentiate the different methods of teaching.

LEARNING ESSENTIALS
These are the time-tested principles of teaching and learning:
1. Effective learning begins with setting clear expectations and learning outcomes.
2. Learning is an active process. “What I hear, I forget; what I see, I remember; what I do, I
understand.”
3. Learning is the discovery of the personal meaning of ideas. Students are given the opportunity
to connect what they learn with other concepts learned, with real world experiences and with
their own lives.
4. Learning is a cooperative and a collaborative process.

A teaching method consists of systematic and orderly steps in the teaching-learning

process. It is the practical realization or application of an approach. All methods of teaching
can be classified either as deductive (direct or inductive (indirect).

OBSERVE
Observe a class with the use of the principles of learning given in the “LEARNING
ESSENTIALS”. Identify evidence of applications/violations of the principles of learning. Cite more
than one evidence per principle of learning.

students should learn from the discussion topic to
the rest of the class.
2. Learning is an active process. The resource instructor is actively conveying his
lesson using a presentation so that the students can
see what will be covered. By the time the teacher
has finished addressing it, he has shared personal
experiences about it and has encouraged the
students to contribute their own personal
experiences as well, in order to provide students with
hands-on experiences that will help them better
understand the lesson.
3. Learning is the discovery of personal In the visual classroom, students are motivated to

communicates with them. One way to connect with
one another and exchange experiences and
information, as well as take advantage of the
opportunity to explain what they had learned, is to
have a good dialogue between the teacher and the
students.

ANALYZE

1. What principles of learning were most applied? least applied?

MOST APPLIED
The principles of learning most applied are effective learning begins with the setting of
clear and high expectations of learning outcomes, learning is an active process, and
learning is the discovery of personal meaning and relevance of ideas.

LEAST APPLIED
The principle of learning that is least applied is Learning is a cooperative and a
collaborative process. Learning is enhanced in an atmosphere of cooperation and
collaboration.
Given instances where this/these principle/s could have been applied?

The learning principle "Learning is a cooperative and collaborative process, and learning is fostered in an
atmosphere of cooperation and collaboration" may have been used during the chat as a virtual group activity.
It could be a group reporting effort in which students separately discuss each subject. In this method, the
students will be able to think and collaborate in order to accomplish the assignments. If students are unable
to collaborate synchronously, they can do so asynchronously. They have the ability to work together to
complete performance-based projects.

REFLECT

From among the principles of learning, which one do you think is the most important?

"Learning is the discovery of the personal importance of ideas," is the most important learning
incident, in my opinion. Why are students given the chance to apply what they've learned to other concepts,
real-life situations, and their own lives? " Personal ideas and experiences, in my opinion, should be included
in the classroom because they assist both the teacher and the students in visualizing what happened and
how something happens; it serves not only to pique our interest, but also to provide an opportunity to
experience it firsthand; sharing will also provide children with an opportunity to connect with their classmates
and teachers, as well as provide insight into what may occur in the real world when the children are not in the
classroom.
