Experience:
JNE Consulting Senior Mechanical Engineer 9/08-4/10
* Designed Praxair's Whiting Hydrogen Plant piping using Autopipe to verify that
the layout met ASME B31.3 Code. Also analyzed stress levels and verified nozzl
e loading was safe for the vessels (ie. Heat exchangers, pumps, etc). Designed
pipe loops to reduce expansion stresses in the piping and incorporated spring ha
nger systems to alleviate high loading on nozzles. Used Process and Instrumenta
tion Diagrams to correctly apply thermal loading based on the piping layout, spe
cification, and design materials. Also used Caesar II for piping analysis and a
pplied temperature and wind climactic data.
* Specified regulators by determining the heat loading for each building and mak
ing the appropriate calculations to determine the flow rate of natural gas and t
he working inlet/outlet pressures.
* Analyzed pressure drops for various line routings using Pipe-Flo, an incompres
sible flow based analysis program, as well as Delgas, a Praxair-based program.
Also used Pipe-Flo to analyze the performance of a centrifugal pump.
Delphi Corporation, Thermal Division Senior Contact Engineer 5/96-
7/08
* Worked with OEM customers including GM-North America, GM-Brazil, Opel, and Toy
ota to improve Delphi compressor product quality by either reducing compressor v
ibration and/or implementing vehicle system NVH-best practices (longer & softer
suction line, eliminating ground-outs, muffler implementation) at customer-based
facilities world-wide.
* Innovatively applied engineering physics to attenuate acoustic waves in a comp
ressor rear head using a baffle (see Publications).
* Redesigned a shut-off valve to improve NVH characteristics relative to opening
/ closing pressures on an Air Board.
* Redesigned a valve-plate for 5CVC-compressors to reduce reed dynamics and stif
fen the retainer to dampen vibrations.
* Analyzed and Designed Line mufflers and internal compressor muffling to addres
s customer NVH concerns.
* Performed vehicle-level testing using subjective GMUTS ratings and objective a
nalysis using Aachen Head recordings in Artemis, DAT-recordings, acceleration an
d dynamic pressure transducers of R134a refrigerant pulsations. Also used modal
methods to obtain structural mounting frequencies with an impact hammer.
* Conducted Pre and Post Compressor Validation and Analysis for assessing new ma
nufacturing site product performance relative to statistical historical data and
/or customer NVH specification standards.
* Used Statistical packages like Minitab for ANOVA and statistical analysis (Six
-sigma) to accurately assess product NVH issues before becoming warranty issues.
Also used statistical methods for clue-generation so as to develop DOE experim
ental approaches to solve engineering problems.
* Documented noise and vibration issues using software like MATLAB, LABVIEW, LMS
Test.Lab, HP3566A, and Artemis for customer presentations.
* Assisted with technical writing for QS9000 and ISO standards and answered tech
nical questions to help Delphi achieve industrial certification.
AFPS, Inc. Project Engineer 6/93-5/96
* Delegated work assignments in Mounting Force area and managed four people.
* Programmed graphical user-interface MATLAB routines to analyze frequency-domai
n data for strain gages, dynamic force transducers, and accelerometers with orde
r cut capabilities, waterfalls, and overall frequencies.
* Purchased equipment.
* Developed a free body diagram of a force transducer array to calculate total f
orce in a six D.O.F. system.
Praxair Student Intern Spring and fall 1992
* Redesigned a manual force transducer into an automatic pneumatic system.
Carrier Transicold Corporation Test Engineering Technician 6/92-8/92
* Located resonant frequencies with a shaker table to determine refrigeration un
it durability to vibration inputs.
