Ref: NHAI-HQ's Circular No.-11013/17/2k/GM (Env.)/277, Dated.-15.01.2016 This Is to bring to your notice that NHAT issued above circular in 2016 to discourage planting of Nerium and Thivetia species because of their poisonous nature. The highways run through dense population areas and people remain in touch with plants. But it has been observed that despite the directives, both the species are most common in median plantation in all states. These species are likely to be the preferred plants because they are non-browsable, capable to withstand dry spell, good coppicer to grow after pruning or after adverse dry conditions. But on these parameters of preference, there are several other species like Bougainvillea, Calliandra, Caesalpinia, Karonda, Sitaphal and Tecoma etc which have been circulated vide NHAI letter _no.-NHAI/GHD/02/02/32/2016/292 dated 14.07.2017. In addition, one can select hardy local species best performing in the agroclimatic zone from IRC SP:21-2009 species matrix available in annexures A-F. The highways run through dense population areas and people remain in touch with plants. But it has been observed that despite the directives, both the species are most common in median plantation in all states. These species are likely to be the preferred plants because they are non-browsable, capable to withstand dry spell, ood coppicer to grow after pruning or after adverse dry conditions. But on these parameters of preference, there are several other species lke Bougainviliea, Calliandra, Caesalpinia, Karonda, Sitaphal and Tecoma ete which have been circulated vide NHAI letter no.-NHAVGHDI02/022/2016/292. dated 14.07.2017.
