Chapter
Chapter 2: 2: Setting
Setting upRCS
up the the RCS

Install and configure the RCS

The install process is the same for RobotExpert, Process Simulate, and Robcad; except
that all RCS modules need a RCS add-in for RobotExpert and Process Simulate (for
example rj3_rcs_tune.exe, rcskrc1_tune.exe, or rcsabb_tune.exe) located in the
relevant zip file downloaded from GTAC.

At your site follow the install guide and user guide to install, and configure the RCS.
In general, the ABB RCS client install goes in the C:\Tecnomatix\rrs_bin folder and
the ABB RCS server and license server are installed in a different folder (and computer)
according to the instructions. The information provided here describes how the RCS
was setup for this class.
The ABB RCS has these components: License server, RCS server, and RCS client.
At your site, you must decide where to install them, since each could be on the same
computer or on different computers. In class, the RCS license server is installed in a
central location and the RCS server and client are installed on each student’s computer.

Step 1: Request and install the RCS license:

a. Open a command window on the license server.

b. Send Siemens PLM Software the result of ipconfig /all.

Step 2: Install the license server:

a. With a user that has permission to install an application, create the folder such as
C:\Program Files (x86)\ABB_License_Server to be the root directory for the ABB
license server install.

b. Unzip a common zip file into this folder: rcsabb_rw5_0.common.server.PC.zip.

c. Browse into the rcsabb_rw5_0.common folder.

d. Edit rcsabb_lmgrd_sample_start.bat with a text editor such as Notepad++.

e. Enter the path to the ABB RCS license file and save the file.

f. If a port is not specified in the license file, the default is 27000. Instead, add a port
number to the license file such as 27001.

Step 3: Install the ABB RCS server:

a. With a user that has permission to install an application, create the folder such as
C:\Program Files (x86)\ABB_RCS_Server to be the root directory for the ABB
server install.

b. Unzip the S4C+ and IRC5 server files into this

folder: rcsabb_rw4_0.common.server.PC.zip,
rcsabb_rw4_0.<version>.s4cplus.server.zip, rcsabb_rw5_0.common.server.zip,
and rcsabb_rw5.<version>.irc5.server.PC.zip.

2-2 Process Simulate ABB controller installation and configuration guide

Setting up the RCS

c. Browse into the rcsabb_rw4_0.common folder and edit

rcsabb_rcsserv_sample_start.bat with a text editor.

d. Replace @sample_host with the port number of license server name, such as
27001@myserver and save the file.

e. Browse into the rcsabb_rw5_0.common folder and edit

rcsabb_rcsserv_sample_start.bat with a text editor.

f. Replace @sample_host with the port number of license server name, such as
27001@myserver and save the file.

g. For ABB, the RCS could have the license server installed on a different
computer than the RCS server or client. You should add a registry
entry to point to the license server: In the registry editor, browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\Software\wow6432node\Flexlm License Manager and
enter RCSABLMD_LICENSE_FILE = 27001@myLicenseServer.

Step 4: Install the v4 and v5 ABB RCS clients:

a. With a user that has permission to install an application, create the folder such as
C:\Tecnomatix\rrs_bin to be the root directory for the ABB client install. Typically,
this path does not have spaces.

b. In the parent folder of rrs_bin, unzip the S4C+ and IRC5

client files: rcsabb_rw4_0.<version>.s4cplus.client.PC.zip and
rcsabb_rw5.<version>.irc5.client.PC.zip.

c. Browse into the C:\Tecnomatix\rrs_bin\

rcs_abb\rcsabb_rw4_0.<version>.s4cplus folder.

d. Edit rcsaddr.txt with a text editor such as Notepad++.

e. Replace the IP address with the name of the RCS server, such as localhost.

f. Unzip the rcsabb_rw4_0x_rw5.X.TuneAddOn.<date>.client.PC.zip file you

downloaded into this folder.

g. Browse into the C:\Tecnomatix\rrs_bin\rcs_abb\rcsabb_rw5_0.<version>.irc5

folder.

h. Unzip the rcsabb_rw4_0x_rw5.X.TuneAddOn.<date>.client.PC.zip file you

downloaded into this folder.

i. Edit rcsaddr.txt with a text editor such as Notepad++.

j. Replace the IP address with the name of the RCS server, such as localhost.

k. For ABB, the RCS could have the license server installed on a different
computer than the RCS server or client. You should add a registry
entry to point to the license server: In the registry editor, browse to
