LAB REPORT 1

INTRODUCTION

What is a shadow?
 Shadows are created from blocking light and the straight lines along
the shadow are formed by light beams as they travel from a source. When
any object gets in the path, light rays cannot pass through that forms a
darkness in the area behind the object. The dark area is referred to as a
shadow.

What is a shadow method?

 Shadow method is used to measure tall objects such as skyscrapers,
buildings, and trees as they lie on the ground and are easy to measure.
This shadow method also relies on similar triangles. Shadow method
works because the sun casts a shadow on the objects.

METHODOLOGY

LOCALE
The experiment was done at Jeddah which is located in Saudi Arabia
and was done outside home.

MATERIALS
The materials that were used in this experiment are as follows:
measuring tape, ruler, marker, and phone.

EXPERIMENTAL
DESIGN
Yt = ?
Yr = 30.0 cm
Sr = 35.6 cm
Sb = 749.8 cm
RESULTS

Yt =Yr x Sb = 30.0 x 749.8 = 631.9 cm

Sr 35.6

Percentage error=|Yexperiment - Ytheory|x100 = |631.9-749.8|x 100 = 18.7%

Yexperiment 631.9

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, this method is proven to be valuable resulting to an

accurate estimates of the measurements. By measuring the shadow of the
object in a sunny day, the unknown height of it was easily calculated by
computing every given data that were measured with a measuring tape.
The results were calculated using the formula to get the height of the
object or the tree.
