Switching regulator power High efficiency voltage regulation. Battery charging voltage is

compensated battery charging temperature range of -10 to +50 C.
Battery disconnect Protects the battery from permanent damage due to over discharge by
automatically disconnecting it when the battery voltage falls to 21Vdc.
Battery Resistance Check Batteries are monitored for high resistance. A fault indication is given if
the resistance exceeds the following values:
1Ω - 2/4-zone panels & repeaters
0.6Ω - 8/16-zone panels
Configurable detection zones Simple and flexible display-based configuration process allowing
detection zones to be configured for any of the following:
o Latching or non-latching Fire indication.
o Delayed or non-delayed Output operation.
o Normal or Intrinsically-Safe zone monitoring.
o Short Circuit = Fault or Short Circuit = Fire
Factory configuration: Latching, non-delay, standard [non-I.S.],
S/C = Fault.
Active fault monitoring on Reduces zone monitoring current and therefore reduces the required
detection zones. [Non- battery capacity.
Intrinsically Safe applications Maintains zone wiring continuity following the removal of a detector,
only] while still providing a fault indication on the panel.
Configurable Fire Routing, Fire Configuration Links on the motherboard allow each Output Relay to be
Protection and Fault Routing individually selected to the EN54-2 powered/fault-monitored mode or
output relays non-EN54-compliant volt-free changeover contacts.
Factory configuration:-Fully Monitored (EN54-2 Mode).
Reset Relay A volt-free changeover contact operating for 10 seconds on panel fire
alarm reset.
Auxiliary 24Vdc power supply Protected by an electronic fuse. Operation of the fuse is indicated on the
output display. The fuse is reset by pressing the Reset button on the display.

Remote inputs Remote Evacuate.
Remote Silence Alarms.
Remote Reset.
One Man Zone Test Each zone can be independently set to the One Man test condition.
Sounders can be configured to either operate briefly to confirm the panel
has detected the test fire or no sounder operation during the test fire.
Other configuration features o Prevent the Fire Protection output operating from a fire condition
on a “Non-Latch” zone.
o Inhibit the silencing and resetting of the panel for 3 minutes
following the occurrence of a fire alarm.
o Set the sounders to operate only when the panel is in the
Evacuate condition.
o Inhibit the resetting of the fire alarm condition until the alarm
sounders have been silenced.
o Disable the internal panel buzzer.
o Select latching fault mode where all fault conditions latch until
the panel is manually reset.
o Restore factory default configuration of zones and outputs to be
delayed.
Repeater panels Support for up to 5 repeater panels via two-wire RS485 serial
communication.

Notes:
1. The FIRECLASS Precept EN13 panel is designed to monitor a composite device made up of a 22µF
capacitor & a 3k9 resistor in parallel as the end-of-line device on the zones. This provides the capability
to detect partial open circuit or partial short circuit on the zone.
2. The maximum quantities per zone listed in the above table are for guidance only and assumes that
different types of detectors are not mixed on the zone. The quiescent current drawn by the detectors is
a typical value and can vary for individual detectors. The current may also be affected by temperatures
outside of the range 23°C ± 5°C, thus reducing the maximum values stated. Each zone should be fully
checked for correct fault monitoring during installation & commissioning.
3. The maximum standby current drawn by devices on a zone must not exceed 2.5mA (not including the
EOL device); otherwise the panel may not detect an open circuit fault at power-up.
4. If the zone is configured as an Intrinsically Safe zone then the end-of- line device must be changed to a
suitable 3k9 resistor. In this case the following limitation must be observed:
The total current drawn by all devices on a zone must not exceed 1mA (not including the I.S.
barrier) otherwise the panel may not detect a partial fault on the zone wiring. The standby current
drawn by each device will be given in the manufacturer’s datasheet for the device. To calculate the
total number of devices that may be connected to a zone, add up the individual standby current
values for each device and make sure that the total current does not exceed 1mA.
The maximum number of devices (including Manual Call Points) per zone must not exceed 32,
regardless of standby current.

Notes:
1. The FIRECLASS Precept EN13 panel is designed to operate sounders on a loop circuit. This provides
the capability to detect partial open circuit or partial short circuit on the circuit and still provide sufficient
current to operate the sounders.
2. The maximum quantity of sounders per sounder loop will depend on the minimum voltage that the
sounders will operate at and the length of the cable between the sounder and the panel. The voltage
available to the sounders will drop as the distance from the panel increases. The voltage available will
also drop as the load on the sounder circuit increases.
The minimum output voltage is 20Vdc (low battery condition).
Table 4 shows the maximum number of devices which can be connected if the cable loop is 6Ω per core
(500m of 1.5mm csa cable).
A shorter cable loop will allow more devices. For 3Ω per core (250m of 1.5mm csa cable) the number of
devices can be increased by 70%.
A longer cable loop will reduce the number of devices. For 9Ω per core (750m of 1.5mm csa cable) the
number of devices needs to be reduced by 30%. For 12Ω per core (1000m of 1.5mm csa cable) the
number of devices needs to be reduced by 50%.
When a variety of sounders are connected to a single sounder circuit, the total current drawn will
determine the quantity of sounders. The table below shows the amount of current available in order to
provide at least 18Vdc to all sounders. The cable length is the complete loop i.e. the cable goes out to
the furthest device and returns to the panel.

17.4. Battery Standby Capacity 10. Substitute the values in to the formula below.
Calculation Cmin = 1.25 x ((Tfault x Ifault) + 2 x (Talarm x Ialarm))/1000Ah
This section describes how to calculate the = ……))/1000Ah
minimum required standby battery capacity for the = 1.25 x (…… +2 x (……)/1000 Ah
control panel. To determine the battery capacity, 1.25 x (……)/1000Ah
perform the following steps:
= 1.25 x ……/1000Ah
1. Look-up the mains failed fault battery current.
Enter this value as Ipanelfault. = ……/1000Ah
2. Look-up the mains failed alarm battery current. = …… Ah
Enter this value as Ipanelalarm.
3. Calculate the maximum load on the alarm 11. Select the next highest available battery size.
